SSD Drive not found - inaccessible boot device

Thread needs solution

Looking for some help in restoring a HP laptop from a "regular" SATA drive to a SSD SATA drive.

Here is the breakdown:

HP laptop - regular, spinning SATA drive.  Backed up, removed drive, put in SSD Sata drive.

BIOS not finding drive in UEFI, but does find it in BIOS diagnostics.  BIOS legacy sees drive, but cannot boot in legacy mode.

Windows troubleshooting sees the drive and I can see the files through the command prompt.

Windows 10 will NOT boot, it fails saying "inaccessible_boot_device."

I can manually install Windows 10 on this drive from scratch, drive is fine.

Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks.

Hello!

So if I understand correctly, if you do a new windows 10 install the SSD works correctly, but if you restore from the earlier HDD it's present, but can't boot from it?

How did you backup your old system and how did you do the restore?

Was the old system installed for UEFI or legacy boot?

Is the old HDD GPT or MBR?
