Updating agent for VMware from 12.5 to 15 fails

Thread needs solution

I have updated the management server, but I can't update the VMware agents.

1. I get an the following error when attempting to upgrade them through the management console:

SocketError: A request to send or receive data was disallowed because the socket is not connected and (when sending on a datagram socket using a sendto call) no address was supplied.

It gets past the point where it authenticates with vSphere, because if I give a wrong password, it gives a different error.

2. Aternatively, I can download a file ESXApplianceUpdate.tar.bz2 from the account page, but I don't know what to do with it.

3. I also don't know how to cleanly uninstall the VMware agent, making sure that the CBT state is also removed.

I hope someone can help me get one of these three approaches to work.

VMware version is 6.7. The current agent version is 12.5.16327.

I have deleted the Acronis agent VMs and removed the agents from the management console. I couldn't find an uninstall procedure, but should have some trust that the sofware works. Then I deployed the appliances using the management console, which went flawlessly.

I triggered a backup of a VM. It appears as an incremental backup in the UI, but it took over 5 minutes, so maybe it transferred the data again.

I was able to run this as a VM - everything seems to work after deleting and then deploying the agents again!
