Adding an existing backup without having to Reconfigure its settings

Thread solved

I know how to add an existing backup, but when I do, the backup files don't show up under the Recovery tab and I have to Reconfigure the Settings.

If I import settings from a zip file, the backup job associated with those settings is created in the backup list and you have to start from scratch wrt backup files; it seems like you can't do both at the same time.

Can anyone please tell me how to add an existing backup so that the backup files show up under the Recovery tab and without having to Reconfigure the backup. IOW,how can you add an existing backup and import the saved settings for that existing backup. It seems like I can do one or the other, but not both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

ACPHO application design uses meta data to track backup files.  If you must add an existing backup chain into the application it is necessary that a reconfiguration occur to restore the meta data association for the file chain.

The application provides for the export and import of backup settings which seems to be what you are missing here.  Look at page 283 of the link here to learn about these functions.

Enchantec,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. It was very helpful.

I think I figured out how to do this. First, you only need to do this if you've reinstalled ACPHO for whatever reason. Prior to reinstalling ACPHO, export the existing backup settings to a location you can easily remember. After reinstalling ACPHO, click on the settings gear in the sidebar, then under 'Backup settings transfer', click 'Import Settings From File'. This takes you to a window where you can browse to the settings file you created. Double click the settings file and the settings are transferred into Acronis backup and a backup job will appear in the backup list. This backup is configured with the settings from the backup that existed prior to reinstalling ACPHOA . Next, click on the arrow on the bottom right of the backup window and click ‘Add an existing backup’, this brings up a window where you choose the drive and the folder where the existing backup files reside. Double click on the most recent backup file indicated by the latest date, and the data for the existing backup will get transferred into the backup job that was created when you imported the settings from the settings file. Now check the settings to be sure they are what you want.

Thanks for humoring me,

Rick
