Are attachments and images on the forum safe from malware

Thread solved

Maybe this is a silly question, but are attachments here on the forum safe?

For example I opened the attachment (image) in this post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-backup-117-former-acronis-backu…

By opening and viewing the image, is it safe?  Does Acronis check attachments?

Sorry if I am leary, but so many malware attacks these days.  Thanks.

I have never known / seen any evidence or reports of malware being spread within any of the forums that I help in and this in part can be credited to the moderation imposed by Acronis on what new users can post and the checks they do for new users in the forums.  This includes limiting the ability of new users to post hyperlinks to other sites containing malware etc.

Given that Acronis have clearly positioned themselves as a Cyber Protection player in the global marketplace, then I would like to believe that they employ those same protection methods to all image and file attachments in the forums, as it would be extremely bad publicity if they got caught distributing any form of malware.

The bottom line here is that ultimate responsibility lies with each individual user to have their own local security application(s) / antivirus etc in place before clicking on any links or downloading any attachments if not confident as to the veracity of the same.

I personally will always scan any attachments etc before exposing my own systems to any malicious payloads they might potentially carry!

VirusTotal offer an option to paste the URL of any suspect web pages or attachments etc that can be very useful.
