Backup interrupts – external hard disk is disconnected for a second - rescue disk not useable

Thread needs solution

Asus Vivobook S (s5402Zz) with 1,92 TB M.2 SSD, Windows 11, external hard drive (5 GB 2.5" hard drive with Digitus USB 3.2 Gen 1 Adapter)

I try to make a backup with cyber protect, but after about 30 minutes the connection to the hard drive is disconnected for a second, so the backup interrupts. I tried several times with the same result.

Then I tried to make the hard drive a rescue media, but this is interrupted at the start. I cannot boot to the rescue surface.

So I can not make a backup at all, and I could not restore, if I had one :-) Any idea what I do wrong?

welcome to these public User Forums.

Please check your Power Options and in particular the option for USB selective suspend, as it is likely that if this is enabled, that Windows thinks the USB drive is inactive and can be suspended while Acronis is doing data gathering for the backup task.

The subject of Selective Suspend for USB comes up often. I do not have any issues with this, but for those who do and yet may still want selective suspend in order to keep power usage down, it might be useful to create a new power scheme for which selective suspend is disabled. Then switch to this power scheme with running a backup, and back to the default scheme when the backup is done. The powercfg command can be used to switch schemes. The switches could be done in pre/post commands, via Windows Task Scheduler or manually, depending on need.

Just a suggestion...
