Cannot create Survival Kit

Thread needs solution

I am very frustrated with this process...  I have Cyber Protect Home and Office, updated to the latest version.

When I initiate the Survival Kit process before making my first backup, it fails repeatedly.

  1. I get a "Unable to copy the file" error.  The ACRONIS HM partition (FAT32  3.99 GB) is completely full.
  2. I assumed the 4 GB partition was not large enough, so I expanded this partition to 10 GB thinking that would work... but it doesn't.
  3. I even suspected that FAT32 might be the problem, so I converted to NTFS and tried again.  Same result...

I could really use some help!

Hello Dean!

Welcome to the forum!

Could you please tell us if you increased the size following this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/69989 ?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for responding, Jose.  I did not use the "sk_size" utility, since the partition was already 4 GB.  I used EaseUS to enlarge the partition to 10 GB.

Thanks for updating.

Please check if all the steps were followed and the pre-requisites met and if yes I would suggest you to try to create the tool with another drive or USB and test if works: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2022/index.html#…

As a device for an Acronis Survival Kit you can use:

  • an external hard disk drive

It should be larger than 32 GB and have an NTFS, FAT32, or exFAT file system. If the drive has another file system, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office suggests formatting the drive.

  • a USB flash drive

It should be an MBR flash drive with minimum size of 32 GB. If you use a GPT flash drive, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office suggests formatting the drive to MBR. Note, flash drives are supported only for Windows 10 (build 1703 and later) and for Windows 11.

 Thanks in advance!

I am using a brand new 8 TB SSD, formatted with NTFS.  I noticed the Survival Kit partition was formatted as FAT32... is that correct?

The Survival Kit partition is always formatted as FAT32 so that is correct.

The operation to create the survival kit should create a Media Builder log file with information on any errors or issues encountered.

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.6.2)

Look for Media Builder in the left column listing.

Thank you for the reply, Steve.  I don't see any errors in the Media Builder log, but maybe something here is useful...

Dean, the log information makes me think that Acronis are not using the bootable media builder program / code when creating the Survival Kit partition.  I have since confirmed this by creating a Survival Kit on a spare USB HDD from ATI 2021 but when checking through other logs shown in the MVP Assistant log viewer tool, I have found entries in the Console > ti_console.o.log file instead which showed:
