Can't delete backup (.tibx) files.
In ACPHOA, in Windows 11 64 bit File Explorer, when I try to delete a backup (.tibx) file it says I need to provide administrator permission, which I give, and then it says I need SYSTEM permission and can't delete the file.
I've never had a problem doing this until now. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Rick,
please follow https://kb.acronis.com/content/61844 to delete the old backup, this is the only recommended way to avoid issues with the backup integrity or correct detection.

Ekaterina - thanks for your response. Sorry it has been awhile since I last visited the forum. Actually, I am able to delete backup files by going to the directory they are stored in, right clicking them and providing administrator permission to delete the files.

Rick, deleting any Acronis backup files outside of using the options provided by Acronis, i.e. the Clean up versions tool, is a recipe for problems later. This is because there is a lot more metadata used for these files in the latest versions and deleting files in Explorer does not handle the changes to metadata that Acronis expects to be made.
See the following KB documents published by Acronis with regards to .tibx files.
KB 63518: Acronis True Image 2020: do not delete first tibx file
KB 63227: Acronis True Image: Do not delete .TIB or .TIBX files outside of Acronis True Image

I have a different version of this issue.
I have 3 pcs using Acronis WD version. and I can not delete any pervious backups using my main pc. Same old msg, need permission. But if I attach the back up drive to my laptop, I have no problems deleting back up versions.
Main pc and my laptop is version 2021 build 39230

Frank, welcome to these public User Forums.
Do you have Acronis Active Protection enabled on your PC's, if so, this will prevent you from deleting your .tib / .tibx backup files as this is what it is designed to do!
If you have an option for the Clean up versions tool, then you should be using that tool, otherwise you need to turn off Active Protection before deleting files -- BUT -- be aware that deleting any backup files using Explorer will cause other problems if those files are associated with an active backup task - this is because Acronis tracks those files in an internal database or using metadata so will give errors for missing versions etc. If you delete .tibx files in this way it can corrupt the whole backup version chain!
