Cloud Archive gives no indication if is unable to delete files|folders archived

Thread needs solution

I used Acronis to Archive some folders to Acronis cloud from my NAS, forgetting that the folders are read only from my everyday profile.

The archive started without warning me. It "analyzed" the folder, but it gace no warning.

The archive operation "completed" .. msg was "The last archiving operation has successfully completed"

But the files are not deleted.

Shouldn't I be able to expect that Acronis will warn me if there is a problem during the Archive operation.

If I can't trust it to do this, can I trust that all files were successfully copied?

I feel uneasy about manually deleting files in this situation.

Can the facility be improved?

Hello Barry.

Could you please provide us with more details?

What do you mean by archiving files? The retention rules of the backup plan?

Please note that sometimes the vaults are outdated and some deleted files appear in the console. You can check the backups that actually exist in the web restore panel: https://kb.acronis.com/content/62010

Feel free to contact if you have any questions with additional details.

Thanks.

No I don't mean backup, I mean your Archive facility.

your image upload facility is broken, I can't upload an image

You will need to paste those three lines together, because I can't send you a url either

Hello Barry!

Thank you for the details.

We have raised a ticket so the issue can be investigated ( 05962055 ).

You can expect a contact from our side as soon as possible.

Feel free to update this thread as soon as you receive a solution for our support.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Naila.

you have misunderstood the issue.

This if from Acronis help documentation for your "Archiving" facility

" You can select the files and folders that you want to archive. After moving to an archive, the local copies of these files will be deleted."

What I am reporting is that if your archive facility is unable to delete the local copies, that it has copied, the facility gives no error|warning message. It just says "The last archiving operation has successfully completed."

It was not successful if it did not achieve the deletion part of the operation.

The facility needs to display a warning log.

If this happens, what is the User supposed to do?

Do I delete the all of the local copies, using blind faith that you did the copy successfully? ... I don't think so.

It is hard to have confidence in your facility if it provides incorrect status info.

I archived 60gb.  I can't check every file to verify that it was copied successfully.

I can see that the archive operation failed at some point, because some or all of the local files were not deleted.

How can I be sure that the operation did not fail earlier, ie. failed during the copy operations. ie. I may be deleting the only copy of the data.

Updating this thread with activities from the support ticket:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not sure that you understand the issue that I am reporting.

This ticket was created by one of your support Agents, arising from my thread here.

Maybe they did not include the 1st sentence from my original thread.

I used Acronis to Archive some folders to Acronis cloud from my NAS, forgetting that the folders are read only from my everyday profile.

ie. I know why the tracks were not deleted.

I am reporting that your Archive facility is a FAIL if it reports that the task was "successful" when it has not been able to  complete the whole task.

An "archive" operation has two components. It is a copy, and then a delete. Both parts are important.

But what is most important is that Acronis progress reporting and error handling is something that can be relied upon.

It appears that your progress reporting and error handling is unreliable.

I "archived" 60gd of data ... many many files ... too many to check manually.

I can see that you failed to delete the source files. But you report no error arising from the operation. You say that it was successful!

So what am I supposed to do now? ... Manually delete all the files? ... I don't think so.

If you reported no error during the failed delete phase, how can I have confidence that there was no error during the copy phase?

And the second part of this fail is the fact that your archive facility does a validation file scan before accepting and starting my request.

If you don't have delete rights to the files that I have selected, you should report the error, and refuse to start the operation.

You have asked me to install a patch.

I am not happy to do that unless you tell me what the patch is going to do?

Is it a patch to your "end of task" progress reporting?

Or is it a patch to the checking that you do during the preliminary disk scan?

Or is it an untested beta that alters the copy and delete archive behaviour.  ... I would not want to volunteer to test this kind of patch upon my data.
