Cloud Backup - Slow Upload
I have used Acronis for several years as a local backup solution, however wanted to expand out to ensure I have a backup stored outside of my home. After shopping around for cloud solutions, I decided to try and keep it simple and use Acronis Cloud for that as well, rather than a separate company.
The issue I have is that the Cloud backup is very, very slow. I have fibre with a 1Gbps upload speed (consistently tests in the 800-900Mbps range on the PC in question) so the issue is not on my end.
I have a weekly backup that I want to replicate to cloud that is around 350GB and it takes between 1.5-2.5 days usually to replicate it. Average speed for the upload to cloud seems to be around 11-14Mbps max.
If it chugged along behind the scenes and took forever I could probably live with it, but while the cloud upload is in progress for that 2 day period, ALL of my other backup plans go into 'queued' status until it's finished and I am at risk of some of my local daily backups not being completed.
Any help would be appreciated. I am on the East coast of Canada. Is 11-14Mbps the most that the Acronis cloud servers can handle when uploading? In 2023 that seems like a very tight bottleneck.

Hello, I am adding to this thread.
My experience with Acronis Replica is similar "Average speed for the upload to cloud seems to be around 11-14Mbps max". Also, Acronis sends data intermittently, and sometimes if the computer is left on overnight, Acronis is still active, but data is no longer being sent. I ran both of the connection tools for the US and all connections were valid and 50/50 data packets completed.
Extra was paid my ISP to access higher upload speeds, so that the Acronis Replicas could complete in a timelier manner.
It would be convenient if a home computer network NAS could manage the upload task to Acronis Cloud.
Having the entire backup located in the same building is an incomplete solution to safeguarding data.

Those having issue with slow upload performance while having a top flight ISP service should consider doing the following:
- Enable Jumbo Frames on your network. This includes modem (if possible), router, switches, and NIC's
- In the Acronis application backup screen, open Options> Advanced> Performance and network and set Operation priority to High - Network connection transfer rate to Maximum - and Snapshot for backup to VSS
Enabling Jumbo Frames will allow your equipment to transfer data at the maximum speed possible. Just remember that all hardware must support jumbo frames in order to take advantage of the setting. Operation priority set to High means that the application will use all available upload bandwidth while performing its work. This should not hinder normal internet usage as most traffic over the internet is in the down direction. Networks operate in a bi-directional manner so upload traffic is only contributing to upload bandwidth. Setting the network transfer rate to Maximum will ensure that your ISP upload limit will be observed as much as possible during the backup.
Above image was taken today 9/19/2023 showing a 92.5 GB total data backup to the cloud at an average speed of 33.6 Mbps over a 35 Mbps connection total duration time 3 hours 54 minutes.
If you have a fiber connection with 1 Gb upload you should make this example look shameful!

Hello!
When running the connection tool, there is a section that mentions data read/write.
That's what you should take into consideration for the backup upload, not your inner internet speed.
If the values of data read/write don't match with the real-time data for the backup, please raise a ticket with our support team, attaching the results of the connection tool. https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153
Thanks in advance!

To follow up on comments:
My gateway will not allow jumbo frames.
The backup task is not that CPU intensive and setting the priority to high doesn't affect upload speeds and can interfere with using the computer during a backup.
Recently, I added a dedicated IP to my NordVPN account and was able to complete the backups at the advertised 200 mbps (1.5 TB per minute) and without the connection dropping before the backup was completed.
