The cloud operation is not supported on a read-only volume

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have upgraded from Wester Digital My Passport Smartware product to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office which is currently on 30days trial and upon kicking off the back, i get the following error and the backup stops:

The cloud operation is not supported on a read-only volume

Any idea how can this be fixed ? i have also tried selecting the source by individual folders to back but that option is not available either to me

Thank you

Waqar

Hello Waqar!

Usually that's error code is related with Microsoft OneDrive but it's complicated to analyze it without the logs.

Microsoft OneDrive has a feature to save the local disk space by keeping only the links to files on computer, and moving the actual files to Microsoft OneDrive Cloud storage. The option is called "Files On-Demand" in OneDrive settings. The links it creates (NTFS reparse points) cause backup to fail. The OneDrive folder becomes a NTFS reparse point too.

The solution to this is to Exclude OneDrive folder from backup or to turn off "Files On-Demand" feature of OneDrive.

Please click the following link to the Knowledge Base article for reference to the illustrated steps: https://kb.acronis.com/content/61362

Let us know if that resolved the issue. If the issue persists, please raise a ticket with our support https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Thanks!

Hi Jose

I have tried both options but none of those worked. I have even unchecked the icloud drive from backup in case but that didnt make any difference either.

Any ideas what else can be going wrong ?

Waqar, the logs for the backup task should hold more information on what is happening here?

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.6.2)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Hello!

Did you tried already to exclude the entire folder ( not files, the entire folder literally ) in the backup plan : https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2023/#3488.html ?

If the issue persists, I suggest raising a ticket with our support with screenshots attached showing the exclusions in the backup plan.

Thanks!
