Cloud storage per seat or for all computers in the license

Thread solved

Hello all,

after a few days of research and disputes with "official" license vendors i need a clear explanation before i venture into another purchase. And i apologize for phrasing it extra stoopid because vendor-lingo makes it necessary.

Product: Cyber Protect Home Office

License type: 5 PC with 500GB cloud storage

Which of the following is true:

Case A:

PC1: 500GB storage used (100% used)

PC2: 500GB storage used (100% used)

PC3: 500GB storage used (100% used)

PC4: 500GB storage used (100% used)

PC5: 500GB storage used (100% used)

or Case B:

PC1: 500GB storage used (100% used of total)

PC2: 0 GB storage used (100% used of total), no more possible

PC3: 0 GB storage used (100% used of total), no more possible

PC4: 0 GB storage used (100% used of total), no more possible

PC5: 0 GB storage used (100% used of total), no more possible

Thanks alot. This is not a trivial question, i know there is an article in your knowledge base, but reality works different, apparently. Support ticket is also open, but with no progress yet.

Stefan

Hi Stefan, welcome to the forum!

Regarding your question on licenses, please refer to this KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/69352. The 500GB is counted per user, not per machine. Therefore, case B is the correct answer; otherwise, it would be 2.5TB of cloud storage and not 500GB.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks!

Hello Jose,

thank you very much for your welcome and the reply. I thought so too, and i am aware of the KB article you linked. But in reality it is very common for vendors to sell 5 PC / 250GB-licenses and they do the math as follows: 5 clients with 50GB each equal 250 GB storage quota. Where does this come from? Some kind of professional volume license they sell? I fell into the trap and barely made it out of it by getting a refund.

Thanks!

Stefan

Hello Stefan!

Regarding the model you mentioned, I'm not sure where it came from. However, I can clarify that while the license can be used on up to 5 devices, the 500GB of cloud storage is allocated per user and not per device. So, the user will have access to the full 500GB regardless of how many devices they use to access it. So the storage and the devices are separated items.

I hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thank you!
