Create OS Backup Crash

Thread needs solution

Every time I try to create a either a disk or file backup for my NTFS Windows 7 (C:),

I get a notification that

Acronis 2021 Build:39216,  has stopped working.

Windows 7 automatically try’s to find a fix but it can't.

Using the clean up app, and rebooting first,

I have reinstalled Acronis three times using "run as administrator".

From CMD, in elevated mode, I have done a C: chkdsk during boot up, showing no problems on the disk.

Even if I try to do a Non Stop Backup of my whole computer, I get the message that

“The selected source is not supported by Non Stop Backup”

This is the same drive that Acronis was happily backing up, non stop, for a year or so.

I have made no hardware changes, or changes to my hardware settings.

I do not have a problem creating a backup from another drive.

Please, how do I fix this. I need to backup my OS.

Cindy, your build version of ATI 2021 is down-level and should be updated to the latest / final build #39287 which included some security fixes.

See the Acronis Product Updates page which has direct download links for latest builds.

In terms of ATI 2021 causing Windows 7 to crash then what has changed on the computer since it was last working correctly, i.e. has any new software been installed, in particular, any security software?

Does this issue / crash only happen when using Non Stop Backup or does it also happen for a standard backup task?

Hi Cindy,

It's possible that the crashes you are experiencing could be caused by your local antivirus software. If you are using one, please add our folders and executables as an exception by following the instructions here: https://kb.acronis.com/content/36429

Additionally, please make sure that your device is not overloaded while running the backup, as this can also lead to crashes. You can check this in the task manager, for example.

If the issue persists, please follow the steps outlined in this article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/45631

Without the logs, it's difficult to determine the exact cause of the issue. Therefore, it's recommended that you contact our support team for further investigation: https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153. I wouldn't recommend you to apply any workaround without knowing the root cause first.

Thank you!

Thank you Steve and Jose,  so much for taking the time to respond.

I have been using Acronis for about 12 years.

And I have continually had all sorts of problems with it.

I can't even really trust it to restore a backup.  I just kept my fingers crossed.

Over the course of the years, I have spent many many hours troubleshooting, and I am no novice.  I build computers.

I think it is time to move on.

But again, thanks for your time.

Hello Cindy! I am sorry to hear that you couldn't solve the issue.

Did you checked what we mentioned above regarding the A.virus or another security apps? Did you installed some recently?

Thanks in advance!.
