file system error chkdsk finds no error

Thread needs solution

I can't get a backup to complete on my backup drive. I've run chkdsk with recovery engaged on the drive and no errors are found. But Acronis keeps saying there's a file system error.

I've uploaded a zip file of my log.

Maybe one of you can see the problem.

Thanks

edit: just backed up a different PC to the same USB backup drive, No issue.

Also, I ran chkdsk on both of the source drives for my 2 different backups. Those drives also came out clean.

Your log file is showing several related errors.

07/01/2024 05:10:20:936 AM +02:00 17608 E00000000: Can't read slices: Error 0x40011: The specified file does not exist.

07/01/2024 06:57:06:187 AM +02:00 17608 E01E50023: Error 0x1e50023: File system error is found. Consider checking the disk using Check Disk Utility.
error 0x10c481: Failed to read the snapshot. See VSS logs for details.
error 0x100155: CRC error.

As you are using ATI 2021 and performing a disks & partitions backup operation, then the demon log does not contain all of the error information - that extra detail is contained in the Backup Worker log for the same task.

There are two specific issues being indicated above, first is that there is a file system issue leading to read and CRC errors - this could be on a hidden / system partition that is not being checked by running CHKDSK as it doesn't have an allocated drive letter.  The second issue is with VSS used to create a snapshot of the disk data.

Download and run the free Acronis VSS Doctor tool to check for any VSS issues.

To check hidden / system partitions, then you would either need to allocate a drive letter, or else check the drive maker support site for any full drive diagnostic tools that can check the whole drive and all partitions.

Hello!

The most common reason for this issue is a physical error on the hard drive you're attempting to back up. Another possible cause could be high workload on the drives being backed up during the backup process.

To diagnose and address the issue:

  1. Run a disk report using the following link: https://kb.acronis.com/content/1638. If the output displays the letter 'E,' it indicates that the respective disk or block is damaged, and you must replace it to ensure successful backups.

  2. Reschedule your backup to a time when the workload on the drives is lower.

  3. Identify the faulty disk by checking the Windows Event Viewer using the steps outlined here: https://kb.acronis.com/content/61335.

Thank you in advance!
