Getting Licensing Alert of Too Many Activations

Thread needs solution

I have an Acronis ATIH 2020 Perpetual license for 3 computers. On one computer I recently started getting a notification message saying Too Many Activations? I am able to reactivate but it's a pain. Need help to figure why.

See KB 62744: Acronis True Image 2020 (Windows): "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number" - for this issue.

Any significant change of hardware such as the motherboard can trigger this issue.  The process will show you the names of the computers where Acronis has previously been activated to allow you to move the license.

There has been no hardware changes. Also the alert telling of too man activations is intermittent. Also KB62744 mentions How to manage subscriptions (KB60194) but in my case I don't have a manage option.

There is no direct option about managing perpetual licenses so the only option here would be to take one of the available options shown after clicking on 'Resolve problem' then review the names of the computers shown for where your licenses have been activated to confirm that they are all known to you?

The only other thought here is if your Acronis Account has been compromised to allow someone else to try to use your licenses, for which you need to first check that you can sign in with your account credentials, and then if you see any unknown computers using a license, to change your account password and contact Acronis!

You indicated if I can sign into my account, which I can, how do I go about seeing if there are unknown computers using a license?

Follow the steps in KB 62744: Acronis True Image 2020 (Windows): "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number" - and take the step to 'Resolve problem' then one of the further options shown.  This will then list where existing perpetual licenses have been activated allowing the option to move the license from another computer to this one.  If you see an unknown computer in that list.....?

Hi there,  I am also getting the 'Too many activations' error message but when I click on the 'resolve problem' I am taken to my account and all it has is a list of the many perpetual licences I have bought over the years -the last being True Image 2020 licensed for 3 machines.  It does not list any PCs.  there is just a monitor icon with 'Workstation' above it and the number 3 next to it.

I have noticed the 'version' of Acronis in the account when I start Acronis is now 'Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (subscription).  I have recently 'updated' my Acronis when it said a new version was available.  Have I been moved to a subscription version by the back door somehow?  (I don't need the protection part as I am very happy with AVG). Is there a way to go back to my perpectual product?

Any help appeciated.

I also have Acronis ATIH 2020 Perpetual license for 3 computers.  I am now getting the same message about too many activations.  When I click on the resolve all I get is a list of the pepetual licenses I have, the last being TI 2020.  Howver there is no indication anywhere of computers using this and the one I am on is not listed.  There is just a monitor icon with number 3 next to is and the word WORKSTATION above.

I notice that the heading on my Account says Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office.(subscription)  When I got a notification that there was a new version avilable and I clicked on it is this what I have been moved to via the back door?  Have I lost the perpetual license?  Is there anyway I can go back to the 2020 version as I use AVG for my prptection and I am very happy with it.

Any help appreciated.

Hello, David.

Go to https://account.acronis.com/#/products/ and log in with the email you are using in the forum.

In your account under Acronis True Image 2020, you will find the option "DASHBOARD." Click on it, and a new page with the console will open. In fact, there are 3 devices registered.

Since there are 3 devices already registered, you won't be able to register another device. You will need to follow the steps outlined in this KB article to resolve the issue: https://kb.acronis.com/content/59689

Thanks in advance!

Hi there and thank you for your suggestions.  However they don't work.  As I said I think I have been 'upgraded' to Cyber Portect (which I don't want) and so when I click 'resolve issue' I just get sent to my account but there appears to be no way to re activate my current PC.

I have tried to upload screen grabs of the dashboard and 'products' pages but I keep getting 'The file could not be uploaded' errors in both jpeg and pdf formats even though they are only around 300K in size!

Do you know how I can remove Cyber Protect and re install ATI 2020?

Thank you

Hello!

The only registered product is Acronis True Image 2020, 2019, 2018, and other legacy versions.

There's no way to upgrade to Cyber Protect Home Office from that version, as it is outdated and unsupported, and it has a perpetual license. We haven't been selling perpetual licenses for the past 2/3 years. If you follow the instructions I provided above, you will see that there are 3 machines in the account (the names of these machines are: DAVID-PC, DESKTOP-61QLB7H, EDITPC).

With that said, since you've registered 3 times, you can't add new devices for that serial key. As advised earlier, you must follow this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/59689 (follow all the steps).

Thanks in advance.

Jose,

Thank you.  I have uninstalled Cyberprotect used the cleanup softweare and re-installed ATI2020.  I have now got back to the situation where I can run ATI2020 and when I get the 'too many activations I get a couple of options.  One of which is that I have changed the hardware or reinstalled Windows.  This is the nearest option for me.  However when I click on that option I am asked to sign in.  I have entered my details but when I click the 'Sign-in' button after 30 secs or so I get an error box saying 'an error has occured while signing in. Please try later. The credentilas are correct as when I use them on the Acronis website they work perfectly.

I am getting very frustrated as I cannot backup or recover anything at the moment.

Any idea what is wrong now?

Thank you

David F

Also make sure you downloaded the latest build of the agent for Acronis True Image 2020, entering in the account before the installation.

Thanks.
