GUI hangs on "Applying user settings" forever
Well, CPHO worked for me for a whole two days before failing in some new and weird way.
Last night it failed to perform its backup, claiming that it got "Access denied" trying to access its own files. I've verified the files are there and accessible.
Now when trying to launch the GUI to investigate further, it hangs on "Applying user settings" forever. I've waited quite a long time on it to see if it would eventually proceed, because it has been just sluggish at this step in the past, but no luck... it's completely wedged.
Why is it so hard for this software to work consistently without failing in some new, weird, and silly way every few days? Shouldn't backup software be rock-solid and reliable?
Unfortunately I am currently remote so rebooting the machine is not an option. Is there anything else I can try to make this software do what I paid for it to do?

I agree Nicklas, this thing is as slow as a dog with 1 leg! Acronis USED to be really good, but now it includes antivirus and malware detectors, which conflicts with my PREFERRED provider of that service. I want a reliable, easy to use back up program. Too much to ask Acronis?

Rob, welcome to these public User Forums.
As you have ACPHO then if you do not wish to use the extra cyber security features, you can now do a selective install and deselect those features to strip the application down to the base / core backup, recovery and clone features.

Dear Rob A,
In addition to Steve's comment, we would recommend checking this article: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: how to install | Knowledge Base

Not only that, but because they install their bloated, unwanted "anti" malware, they render your system unstable from conflicts with your preferred anti-malware solutions and just poor development and testing practices in general.
If you don't want to pay for a "subscription" to new beta-quality backup software, your only real option is to selectively disable bits of the ACPHO installation by renaming driver files from C:\Windows\System32\drivers so they don't get loaded; specifically, you would need to get rid of bddci.sys. Even if you turn protection off in Acronis, the BitDefender driver still loads and causes tremendous system stability issues. I've also found afcdp.sys, a file filter driver installed by Acronis, to be horrendously unstable, causing many blue-screens and lock-ups (if you Google it, you'll find countless reports of problems that it causes).
I usually just rename the files, changing .sys to .~sys; this effectively prevents them from loading at startup while keeping the file around should you ever decide that you actually want your system to be destabilized by Acronis.
After renaming or deleting these two drivers, you need to reboot so you get your operating system running in a clean state without them resident in the kernel.
Unfortunately you have to go through this song and dance every time you update your installation of CPHO, because Acronis will always reinstall these drivers, whether you want them or not.

Sorry but if already have ACPHO then you already have a subscription product and your actions above make zero sense when there is a new option to perform a Custom installation of ACPHO which allows you to not install the Cyber Protection or Active Protection features without needing to go hacking the application files or drivers etc.
See Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: how to install | Knowledge Base for details.
This new custom install option came with build #40107 for the 2023 release of ACPHO.
See KB 68375: Licensing change FAQ: Acronis products switch to subscription-only licenses - where this was announced! ATI 2021 was the last perpetual licensed version from Acronis.

Maybe they don't make sense to YOU, but they make perfect sense to me, because I don't want to spend my days beta testing Acronis's untested backup software and paying them for the privilege of doing it.
Every change of Acronis software renders my system unstable, sometimes for a day, sometimes for *months* until I get to the bottom of how it's crashing my machine this time. Thus, once I get things stabilized, I don't like to uninstall, reinstall, or upgrade it. I finally got it working, and now I'm leaving it the heck alone.
Acronis has not earned the right to force me to keep paying for their software year after year after year, and when my current license runs out, I'm done with it forever. And this is on them, not on me.
It's frickin' backup software. There's no reason I, or anyone else, should need to keep paying for it to do its one job, especially when it does that one job SO badly.
It's a shame, too. I used to really like TrueImage; it was quite good at what it did, and Acronis had built up a lot of goodwill with me for it, all of which they completely lost and squandered with ACPHO. I no longer trust nor respect them after what a completely bonkers and ridiculous fiasco ACPHO has been. If they had any respect for their customers at all, they'd take our feedback to heart about the absolute mess they've made and make some changes. The fact that they haven't and they won't speaks volumes.

I've had enough!
Acronis used to be a rock solid backup/clone tool, now I find myself spending many hours a month investigating/installing/sending logs.
It's sluggish, it's slow, I get random errors telling me it cannot access my account/backup, I've had to re-create backups, and the last straw is that the anti-malware conflicts with the Dell Support Assist - it (silently) prevents installation of Dell software and driver updates.
Dell engineers spent 2 solid hours remote access uninstalling/re-installing their software, creating new users, running diagnostics, and then 'repaired' windows and could not figure out why the updates were failing.
Eventually had me re-format and reinstall from the Dell image - everything worked until I installed Acronis and as soon as I did that the Dell updater started failing. I uninstalled Acronis and the Dell updater works again.
Acronis support offered to help, but I'm no longer interested in spending my evenings & weekends troubleshooting my computer - I've got work to do!

OK, so it seems like ACPHO has changed a lot since True Image. I have some questions though... which I just tried to ask Support... someone answered... then the windowed greyed out with a message that "your chat has ended as there is nobody to answer your ticket"... LOL...
Hello! Thank you for contacting Acronis Customer Central. My name is Sumanth and I will be glad to assist you. Please allow me 3-4 minutes to review your message. If you already have an existing case number on this issue, please let me know. Otherwise, I will create a new case and provide you the case number.

The same problem for me after last update (40338), it takes more than 15 minutes to load, waiting in "Applying user settings..." screen.
What is going on??

Hello !
I checked our records and I didn't found any know issue with that behavior.
That requires an investigation. I would advise you to raise a support ticket so we can check what's the issue: https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks.
