How to create (I think i've done this bit?) & restore a system image from an external HDD to a new HDD in laptop
Dear all,
I'd like to know to restore a system/OS image/backup that I took onto an external HDD for my laptop, Acronis pointed me to making a bootup USB PE key which i have and it does boot up and allows me to browse the backup/image, the problem is when i click restore it just says select backup file but when i browse to the Ext HDD it DOES see the files on there but it doesn't allow me to select the whole image OS/system partition to restore, could someone please help/advise how I could restore from this backup/sys image which resides on an external Hard disk to a new blank HDD on the laptop that I originally took the system/OS backup from please?
Kind Regards
Norm

Please review the Acronis KB article here which covers the recovery operation including screenshots using the WinPE recovery media.
Dear Enchantech,
Thanks for the link which I have followed but as my post above - " it does boot up and allows me to browse the backup/image, the problem is when i click restore it just says select backup file but when i browse to the Ext HDD it DOES see the files on there but it doesn't allow me to select the whole image OS/system partition to restore"
I am able to boot using the PE usb and even browse the external HDD which I used to backup/take an image to BUT I'm unable to select anything?
Thanks
Noam

Norm, more information is needed here so that we can best understand exactly what you are trying to do? Screen images of the panels you are seeing when attempting the restore would be very helpful.
What size of backup is involved here? Is this an 'Entire PC' backup and if so, does your laptop have more than one drive installed?
Are you attempting to recover to the same laptop and same drive that the backup came from?
