How to expand/unzip a disk image backup (.tibx) file?

Thread needs solution

Is there a way that I can copy all of the contents of a disk image backup (tibx) file to another folder on my Win11 C-disk?

I purchased Acronis so I could create a disk image backup of my old Win10 system to ensure that I have moved everything (files and folders) over to my new Win11 system.

I have the backup file, but am having trouble copying certain folders. I copied the tibx file to the Win11 C-disk. I then created a new folder where I planned to copy the contents of the tibx file. I was able to copy the first few folders without any problems. Then I ran into a problem. When I tried to copy the Users folder, File Explorer froze. I could not even close it. I had to reboot the computer. Fortunately, it was only File Explorer that was frozen. I was able to close all other open apps.

Hello!

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

  1. Windows Updates:

    • Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, updates include bug fixes that can resolve such issues.
  2. Large Number of Files or Folders:

    • If the path contains a large number of files or folders, it might take a while for Windows Explorer to load them. Consider organizing the contents or accessing the path in smaller chunks.
  3. Resource Usage:

    • Check system resource usage using Task Manager. High CPU, memory, or disk usage may indicate a performance issue. Identify and address resource-intensive processes.
  4. Disk Errors:

    • Disk errors or bad sectors on the storage drive where the path is located could lead to freezing. Run a disk check utility (chkdsk) to scan and fix any disk errors.
  5. Outdated Graphics Drivers:

    • Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers may cause Windows Explorer to freeze. Update your graphics drivers to the latest version.
  6. Network Drive Issues:

    • If the path is on a network drive, there may be connectivity issues. Ensure that the network connection is stable, and try accessing other network resources to troubleshoot.
  7. Antivirus or Security Software:

    • Security software may interfere with Windows Explorer's operations. Temporarily disable antivirus or security software to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, consider adjusting the settings or updating the security software.

Additionally, for a more direct approach to file recovery, you can install the Acronis agent on the affected machine and follow the steps outlined in the documentation: Recover files directly from the console.

Hope these steps help in resolving the freezing issue. Let me know if you need further assistance!

None of this answers my question. It's a brand new computer. It has all of the updates. It was the only program running.

How do I create a folder containing all of the files and folders in the tibx file?

The only reliable method of pulling all the files and folders from the tibx file would be to restore the whole disk image file back to an external disk drive then copy any files and folders from that restored drive.

When you attempt to do this from within Windows you will run into issues because of file permissions, especially with files in system folders such as those in the Users profile path, i.e. in AppData...

Yes, assuming it is of sufficient size for the data / partitions in the image or else just restore the Windows OS partition on its own.
