MBR Destruction

Thread needs solution

So I am a newbie to Acronis and did not realize that the first cloning option, to clone to a bootable OS for THIS computer, damages the MBR of the source drive. I kind of understand the reason for this, so if you keep both in only the new one boots, but I am in trouble now. Is there any way tp repair the MBR from the source disk so it boots again?

Allen, welcome to these public User Forums.

Cloning should not damage the MBR of the source drive but for the option chosen, i.e. to clone to a bootable OS for the same computer, it may change boot information in preparation for you, the user, to remove the source drive and replace it with the cloned drive.  That is what that option is intended to be used for.

One key factor here is that you should not be attempting to boot the PC with both the original source drive and the clone drive connected - doing so can lead to a disk signature clash and could potentially cause some corruption.

The best recommendation at this point would be to ensure that you have disconnected the second drive, then try booting the PC from the original drive, allowing Windows to perform a boot repair if deemed to be necessary.

The alternative, would be to remove the original drive, replace it with the clone then test booting the PC with only that one drive.

Hello Allen.

The replication shouldn't damage the MBR. That's not expected.

I saw the product you use is OEM. We don't support those products. Please contact the provider with more details so they can help you with the issue: https://kb.acronis.com/content/2201

Thanks in advance!
