My backup is on a USB Hard drive and Acronis won't "look" at it or see it

Thread needs solution

My system crashed, all my programs were uninstalled by Windows, including Acronis, and Windows installed a fresh version of Windows 10.

I have my Acronis serial number. I downloaded a fresh version of Acronis, started a new "trial" I can't access my backup as my newly downloaded, latest version of True Image will ONLY look in the cloud for my backup.

I figure I must need to pay more for my Acronis service, which I am happy to do, but I have a valid "trial edition" which won't look to my connected drive for the backup. I get caught in a loop of activate my trial, log into my account, but the log in fails.

I can log in to my Acronis account directly, without doing so from within Acronis itself.

I have no idea what to do.  Or do I buy a fresh version, download it, and start over again.

Thanks for any assistance.

If you have the serial number, you should be able to enter that to get beyond the trial version. If you are installing it on the same system as it was licensed to before, you should be able to get it licensed again.

Richard,

Follow the steps found here  under Automatic Activation to activate your license.  Simply signing into your Acronis account from this screen in the application will get your product activated.

Boot from the Acronis rescue media and restore your system from the saved images on the external hard drive.

Richard, it sounds likely that you are using Linux based media which doesn't have drivers to support your USB controllers / devices.

Create new rescue media using the Acronis Bootable Media Builder tool provided with the installed application and choose the 'Simple' option which will create Windows PE rescue media using files from the Windows Recovery Environment along with device drivers for your installed hardware - that media should find your USB devices without issue.

I was able to change my BIOS settings to let BIOS set USB terms for my keyboard and mouse and so they functioned after my Acronis CD booted me up and was able to choose from Acronis choices.  I am now confronted with no .tib file on drive where I thought it was.  Meaning I likely got sloppy about not backing up diligently to my favored choice.

I do see other backups on a different internal drive which are much older.  I will now move towards choosing one of them.

I'm not there yet but thanks to each of you who has responded.

Richard, don't forget that drive letters are often different when booted from rescue media so double-check that you have been looking at the correct storage drive!

My recovery operation is now happening.  I'm recovering a much older version of my drive than I'd like but that's my problem.  Fingers crossed!

The key was changing my BIOS settings to facilitate getting my USB keyboard and mouse to work after my Acronis recovery media loaded and allowed me to proceed.  It took me awhile to find where I could do that in my BIOS.

Thanks to all of you for your input!

Hello Richard.

I am glad the issue with the recovery seems to be resolved.

Please update us if the operation has finished properly.

Thanks in advance!
