New Computer Transfer

Thread solved

I have Acronis True Image 2021 on my machine and I'm going to change to a new PC. I would like a link or instructions on what I have to do to use Acronis to set up the new PC with all the data, apps, etc. on my new machine.

Help would be appreciated.

Tom, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you are wanting to keep the new copy of Windows that comes pre-installed on a new PC and just transfer your apps etc from the old PC, then sorry but Acronis cannot do this for you.

Please see KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

If your intention is to migrate everything from your old PC to a new PC, then you can do this by using Backup & Recovery with a Disks & Partitions backup image but again it may not be as simple as that sounds depending on a number of factors!

What version of Windows is on your old and new PC?  Are these the same version including the same edition, i.e. both Win 10 or 11 Home, or both Pro editions?

How are your apps licensed?  If they are licensed based on the hardware signature of the old PC, then you will need to re-activate the license if moving to a new PC.

How do the old and new PC boot from the BIOS - are they both using UEFI BIOS boot mode?  You can run the command: msinfo32 in Windows to check the BIOS mode value shown in the right side panel.

See KB 65413: Acronis True Image 2021: Restoring to dissimilar hardware with Acronis Universal Restore and in particular review Steps 4 and 5 of this document.

If your old PC is running an older version of Windows or has an older CPU not capable of being 64-bit, then you are unlikely to be able to migrate that OS to a new PC!
