Perpetual license users abandoned

Thread needs solution

I use to like Acronis Backup software.  I found it irritating when they focused on off-site backups since I have 40 TB and there is now way I can afford that backed up to the cloud.  Then they announced a new product that was subscription only.  I asked where are the maintenance releases for the rest of us?  It is really to bad they decided to die by subscriptions.  I know they will not get subscription money from my retirement income.

Gary, welcome to these public User Forums.

Acronis have made a commercial / business decision with regard to moving away from perpetual licenses to a subscription license model but those perpetual licensed products will continue to work while they are supported by the versions of Windows (or Mac OS) where they are installed.

There are very unlikely to be any further new builds for any version of True Image unless some form of critical security issue is identified and maybe not even then.

Acronis online cloud storage was always a subscription option that users could decide whether they wanted to use or not.  If you have 40 TB of available local storage then I doubt you would want or need cloud storage, especially if you already practise a good backup strategy, i.e. keeping multiple backups using different storage media and kept in multiple locations to avoid any single point of risk from theft, fire, flood etc.

Hello Gary,

Please refer to this Knowledge Base (KB) article for an explanation about the changes in the billing model: https://kb.acronis.com/content/68375.

For updates, you can monitor them on this page: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/updates/.

Kindly note that Acronis True Image 2021 is a legacy version, and currently, there are no plans to implement any updates for it as it's out of lifecycle. https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/lifecycle/consumer/#true-image

Thanks in advance!

Time to find a different backup utility.

ATI had become worse over time, and now they want money in perpetuity.

Not happening
