Please help I cannot create a differential in Windows

Thread solved

Windows 11 Acronis bld40713

I have tried 5 times. If I make a full and then change a couple of files for test, then backup again it always does another full.

And I did select the differential scheme.

However I do not have the trouble with WinRE, I can do a full and there is the option:

Add to existing backup archive

And you can choose incremental or differential.

Why is this missing in the Windows GUI.

I tested all of this in WinRE and a full took about 30 minutes and the differential about 2.5 minutes.

Please help me figure it out.

I called support, waited a while, when it sounded like they were getting ready to answer, they hung up on me.

This trying to call happened 3 times.

How are you deciding that another full has been created here?

Differential backups will create separate .tibx or .tib files depending on the backup scheme.

What does the Activity panel for the backup task show, i.e. it should show an initial Full and then your Differential backups?

What does Explorer show for the backup file sizes?

In WinRE if I make a full (about 30 minutes).

Boot into Windows, make a couple of minor changes.

Go to the WinRE again and make differential (about 2 minutes)

That file size is very small compared to the full.

==============================================

Now I performed the exact same in Windows GUI choosing differential scheme.

Made full (about 35 minutes)

Made a couple of minor changes.

Backup again (differential scheme was already chosen) took about 35 minutes.

And the backup size is about the same as full.

Then I don't need to view the activity log to know something is amiss.

===============================================

At the time I did not even think to look at the activity log, it would not

have done any good anyway.

A few days ago when I did all of this with incremental, this problem didn't exist,

seems to be only differential with the problem.

I am also starting a new post with another differential problem I have uncovered.

Edit:

Will do full backups only because of the way Acronis for whatever reason deals with the metadata.
