Problems with Acronis True Image 2021 and Windows 11: Slow Start; won't sleep
II recently upgraded one of my computers to Windows 11. I ran into 3 problems:
- The startup was very slow (up to 2 minutes) when clicking on “restart”. The start times for a cold start were normal (about 7 seconds from the appearance of the Windows logo
- The computer would not “sleep”
- I could only restore a backup from an external USB hard drive.
I did a lot of investigation and trial and error before learning that the problems were caused by Acronis True Image 2021. These were known problems that were fixed in the last update for True Image 2021 for Windows 10. Unfortunately, when True Image rebranded as Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, the changes were not carried over for True Image 2021 and Windows 11.
There are a lot of details that I will mostly skip, but the essentials are these: the incorporation of ant-malware protection interfered with the backup and restore functions. To fix the problems required removing the following programs from Windows 11 startup:
- tib_mounter_monitor.exe
- TrueImageMonitor.exe
- Schedhlp.exe
Of course, any fix causes other problems. In this case, removing the scheduler service left True Image unable to make backups. Searching online, I discovered a fix using “powercfg /requestoverride:
powercfg /requestsoverride SERVICE "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" EXECUTION
powercfg /requestsoverride SERVICE AcrSch2Svc EXECUTION
powercfg /requestsoverride PROCESS schedul2.exe EXECUTION
Finally, I had to disabled Acronis Cyber Protection Service within True Image and used another anti-virus and anti-malware program instead.
I hope these instructions will save some other person time and energy.
