Restoring a .tibx backup to an external drive?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

My use case is unusual, but what I have done is to create a .tibx backup of an external drive on my local disk. I now want to restore this backup from my local drive to the external drive.

Is this possible, and if so, how?

If this is not possible, how can I recover the data from the .tibx backup? When I open this file using my file explorer, it comes up as empty despite taking up almost 200 gb of disk space.

Many thanks!

Henri, welcome to these public User Forums.

You should be able to perform a Recovery to your external drive from within Windows using the Acronis GUI application.

See KB 59870: Acronis True Image: how to restore the system to the original disk from within running Windows which describes the process involved.

One reason why you see an empty archive when looking inside the .tibx might be due to the file system in use for the external drive.  Open the Recovery panel for your Backup task that created the .tibx archive and see if that shows more information or not?

Note: when doing the Recovery please make sure that you select the correct external drive and disconnect any other external drives if present.  One of the first actions of the recovery operation is to wipe the target drive in preparation for restoring the original partition structures from when the backup image was created.
