Saving backup job description

Tutorial

How do I export the complete description of a backup job to a flash drive, for example?  If the disk where Acronis Cyber Protect is installed dies or is ransomwared, I assume the descriptions of my backup jobs die with it.

I've used the "Save settings to file..." mechanism and then examined the files within the zip archive that is generated.  They don't have any backup job specific information in them; e.g., job name, source and destination locations, etc.  I have several diferent jobs defined but there is no indication of that in the saved settings.

I ask because my understanding of how to do file/folder recovery is to launch the specific backup job and use the Recovery tab.  But what if the backup job definition is gone?

Hello!

Welcome to the forum.

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office doesn't have formal backup plans. Our corporate/MSP products include this feature, but the consumer version doesn't.

The only similar feature is the one you mentioned above. To export the settings, follow the instructions in the user guide: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2024/#10147.html#kanchor316

If your machine fails, you need to add the backups manually to the vault again: https://kb.acronis.com/content/60918 and the import the settings manually.

Note that you should have a bootable media prepared in case you need to recover the entire machine. If you recover the entire machine to a specific recovery point/day, everything will be recovered, including the backup agent and its respective settings.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for your quick and informative reply.  You have provided quite satisfactory solutions to my hypothetical situation.  I knew that once I had Acronis Cyber Protect reinstalled I could use Windows Explorer to manually restore all my files from the backups.  Redefining the backup job from one of its files is a much superior solution.

I know I'm getting a little (maybe more than a little) hacky here, but what if I add the /ProgramData/Acronis folder to my regular backup job?  If I were then to restore just that folder via Windows Explorer would all my backup jobs be restored to their pre-disaster state?  That doesn't sound safe because Acronis is going to be updating the contents of that folder.  Synchronizing updates with the actual backup of the contents probably won't happen, thus leading to an inconsistent state of the data in that folder.  But I bet if I make a copy of that folder before launching Acronis I could restore that copy to /ProgramData/Acronis.  Does this sound feasible?

Thanks again,
David

Hello!

If you back up the folder, you will get all the files in the program, among other things. You could try performing a copy-paste of the data, but I can't guarantee it will work smoothly. Testing it is necessary. The best approach would be a full backup of the machine and recovery with the bootable media. Once recovered to the desired recovery point, the program and the respective settings will be restored.

Best regards.
