Unable to recover failed HDD in HP laptop

Thread needs solution

I can’t recover the full backup from my external HDD to my laptop. There is no partition available on internal HDD. The laptop fails to boot. What can I do?

I have HP Envy x360 with Intel HDD and Optane technology. The attempt of system recovery results in error 0xc0000225. I have Windows 10 installed.

I have the next messages when I try to boot:

The operating system did not shutdown cleanly.

Reconstructing Cache Metadata.

Please do not interrupt this process.

Reading packed metadata into memory…Done

Processing Delta Log record……….18511

Failed to read Delta Log

Press <Esc> to continue.

The next message appears if I press <Esc>:

Abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology UEFI driver.

And the computer reboots again in the perpetual circle.

Hello!

Welcome to the forum.

Please try the following:

- Create a WinPE B.media: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2022/index.html#…

- Recover with the WinPE: https://kb.acronis.com/content/69427

(Check the Boot order in the OS: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2022/index.html#… )

- Check the external HDD connection: Ensure that the external HDD is properly connected to your laptop and functioning correctly. Try connecting it to a different USB port or using a different cable if possible.

- Verify the backup integrity: If you have access to another computer, try connecting the external HDD to that computer and verify the integrity of the backup files. Ensure that the backup files are not corrupted and can be accessed successfully ( you can validate the backup in the backup console ).

If the issue persists, please raise a ticket with our support so we can troubleshoot the issue and help you https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Let me know if you face any issues during the process.

Thanks.

I can’t create anything already since my PC doesn’t boot. I can boot Acronis recovery tool from the external HDD but I can’t restore the backup to the computer since there is no partition available on internal HDD. I see the backup image files.

If your PC doesn't boot, then you have several options open to how to proceed:

Try downloading & creating the Linux based rescue media from your Acronis Account downloads page.  This is provided as a DVD .ISO image that can be burnt to optical media.
Note: Linux based media has a number of limitations that could prevent it correctly seeing your internal disk drive, i.e. if it requires Intel RST & Optane drivers to be recognised?

Install Acronis on another PC and create the 'Simple' version of Windows PE rescue media using that system. This assumes that you are using Acronis 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 or ACPHO versions.  You have not mentioned what actual version of Acronis you have in this topic!

Final option: do a basic vanilla install of Windows on your HP Envy x360 PC to get a basic OS environment where you can install Acronis and then create the 'Simple' WinPE rescue media and test booting that media to ensure it has all required device drivers.  Additional device drivers can be added to WinPE rescue media using the 'Advanced' option if needed for your Intel HDD and Optane components.

Here is an update on my issue. I could not see my internal HDD using any software tool I tried. I opened up the laptop, removed the HDD then inserted it in into the enclosure and connected it to a different PC. The PC recognized the HDD and gave me the next two messages: “D:\ not accessible. Access is denied.” And “BitLocker (D:) Enter the 48-digit recovery key to unlock this drive. (Key ID: 15248388)”

Can I reinitialize this drive on the different PC and put in back into my PC and restore the last full Acronis Backup on it?

Yes, you should be able to reformat / prepare the HDD on a different PC then put it back in the laptop and check that the Acronis rescue media is then able to see it as a target for recovery.
