Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap Acronis 2021 and Acronis Cyber Protect

Thread needs solution

In January this year (2023) one of the W11 desktop PCs that I have Acronis 2021 installed on started throwing up the Unexpected Kernel Mode Error blue screen whenever I tried to start a backup - the others are fine, and I don't have this issue with any other software.  I have found a large number of web pages describing the error and possible causes, but few if any point in a clear direction to solve it.   I have tried upgrading to the latest Acronis Cyber Protect, but no improvement.  I have made an Acronis System report but really don't know where to go from here.  Even if Acronis 2021 is no longer supported as the website seems to indicate, there isn't any point in upgrading if the same problem is going to arise, as seems to be the case.  A pointer to a useful faultfinding chart would be appreciated.

Robert, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you have reproduced this same error after installing the latest build version #40339 of ACPHO then you should open a Support case direct with Acronis support for it to be investigated as you will have 30-days of trial support for ACPHO.

I have not seen any other user reports of this type of kernel mode trap error associated with either ATI 2021 or ACPHO in these forums, and have never seen this issue for any of my own Windows 11 systems with either product.

If you are overclocking any components in the affected PC then I would suggest reverting this back to default settings and see if the issue continues?  Acronis is an intensive user of both memory and CPU when processing a backup operation and this can cause issues when overclocking is involved.

One further suggestion, create the Acronis 'Simple' WinPE version of rescue media and test doing a backup on the affected PC using that media to see if you still see the kernel error?  If you do, then it would again suggest a hardware issue.

Hello Robert!

I am sorry to hear about the issue.

Did you changed something on that machine? As a new A.Virus for example? If yes, please exclude the agent services/executables : https://kb.acronis.com/content/36429

I checked our records and that issue was just reported 1 time this year, so there isn't any ongoing issue with the product.

If the issue persists, that requires an investigation with our R&D and a ticket is needed.

Thanks!
