Why did Active Protection start to have high CPU usage recently without much I/O at all?
Hello,
My operating system details are:
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
OS build 19045.3930
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0
I'm using Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, build 40901:
A few days ago, Active Protection started to use a lot of CPU around %15 to %20 with a lot of Power Usage, keeping my laptop busy and hot even when I'm not doing much:
When I "paused" it, the service didn't stop at all. It continued to run as if nothing happened. I also tried restarting my laptop, still the same, the service is running, consuming 15% to %20 CPU with a lot of Power Usage, keeping laptop hot:
I also checked with Process Explorer, it seems like it's not doing much I/O, not much disk activity at all. But then what is Active Protection doing with so much CPU if not checking my disk. That is even the case when no web browsers or any of the applications are running (that I normally run):
I tried to stop the Active Protection service in Windows Services, but I can't:
Also, Acronis Cyber Protect service itself is not using much CPU at all:
Long story short, can any Acronis expert help me understand why Active Protection uses so much CPU and power, why I can't stop it even when it seems "Paused"? Pausing and then running it again seems like to have no effect whatsoever on the service and its CPU usage characteristic!

Hello Jose,
I tried "Pause", reboot, re-start Active Protection, Pause, reboot, etc. a few more times and now checking with Task Manager and "active_protection_service.exe" isn't using high CPU anymore. Total CPU usage for all tasks is now 2% to 5% when my laptop is mostly idle and no more heating issues.
I have no idea how it went back to this normal situation, just like I had no idea why Active Protection was using 15% to 20% CPU for the last few days. Weird.

Hello!
Thanks for the updates.
This would require an investigation because issues with performance can have several roots.
The ticket is open, and our support will try to conduct an investigation to determine the cause.
Thanks.
