Win10, UEFI, Backup with boot disk, Backup Successful ... Target partition empty. tibx disappears
A. I am using a TI 2021 boot disk on a Dell Inspiron 5552 laptop, Windows 10 fresh
install, 64 bit, and UEFI. I created a 100gb partition using Windows Disk Management and
named it "Acronis". I booted with the TI disk with no issues. I chose 64bit mode. I chose
"Disk Partition and Backup" and chose the default selected partitions, C:, EFI, and
(Windows) Recovery Partition. I targeted D: (the newly created partition that I named named "Acronis") and started the
backup.
B. TI processes as usual (about 10 minutes). A tibx is created in D: and can be seen
using the Acronis GUI. When rebooted to Windows, The partition is declared "empty". A
search for *.tib* with hidden files and operating system files "shown" reveals "no
results". When rebooted using TI boot disk, the tibx that WAS visible after the backup
process is now gone.
C. In several other attempts, I have successfully created a tibx in an external drive but
when the TI Recovery mode is chosen and recovery is "successful", Windows refuses to boot
or repair itself and must be re-installed from scratch.
D. My goal with this thread is to create an operational backup and recovery file and to
help others who may be having the same issues. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the suggestions.. I have used TI successfully since TI2009 many, MANY times in the exact manner stated: Create a partition, create images of other partitions in that same drive and create a .tib ...all with a boot disk. Recovery done with a boot disk accesses the .tib in the partition, recovers the partition images and all is well.
In this instance, the .tibx disappears upon re-boot. The .tibx is created with a boot disk and is verified using the boot disk gui by choosing "Create..." again before exiting the program. When the same target is choosen for the second time, the first .tib is there and the auto-generated name includes (1) to prevent an over-write.
Exit the boot disk program, eject the disk, reboot to windows, and the newly created .tibx is gone!! It's not hidden or located somewhere else, it's just, plain, gone!! ...the partition reserved for the .tibx (that was verified in that location) is empty!!
What is repeatedly deleting the file?

Paul, have you put other files in the D: partition? Are they gone as well?

This very much sounds like you are booting the PC from rescue media when it is in a hybrid sleep state and not fully shutdown where the Master File Table for NTFS is updated by the offline action but reverts back to how it was when Windows is resumed from hybrid sleep.
As you are intending to create the backup image in a separate partition on the same disk drive as the other partitions including the OS, then the simplest solution here is to create the backup from Acronis running within Windows to that separate partition. I have used that approach many times for single disk PC's / laptops to provide a recovery option without having to carry an external storage drive.

Paul,
Thanks for clarifying. On that note I must concur with Steve here. Another approach to using the recovery media to create a backup would be to shutdown the laptop, attach the boot media and then boot to that media using the one-time boot menu. This would ensure a cold start removing hybrid sleep from the equation.

This error occurs in multiple PCs. Yes, files placed in the new partition remain. No, the exact same thing happens when backed up to an external drive. No, no hybrid sleep, in fact, I took the battery out of the laptop, unplugged it, re-powered back up and booted to TI. When TI declared that a backup was successful, I pulled the plug forcing a shut down without having a chance to exit or delete the file. The file was still gone!! I got this 2021 boot disk from Ebay as an iso for $3.95. (It is still there if you care to check) Personally, I think the build has been hacked. Is it possible that this is a pirated copy???

Progress supplement... The boot disk just created a backup file in a new partition on a 32bit Vista PC correctly... Yay! So is it just 64bit PCs it doesn't like??

Paul, I just looked at this on eBay. Not sure at all what you have here. I suspect it is a Linux based version. Also, I see on the listing the following... "Attention please ! I do not provide License Key". So you are using an unlicensed version, which may not allow you to save the backup. This is not a free product.
In the normal case, a bootable media is created from the system where you have a full version of the Acronis application installed. You want the media to be able to work well with your system and that is not always the case due to differences in hardware, drivers, etc. Also, the media created from the full version is licensed.
