Windows 10 corrupted after Acronis Universal Restore Boot, Audio devices Lost

Thread solved

Dear forum,

bought a new PC and wanted to use Acronis Universal Restore.

1: Created USB drive with Acronis Universal Restore on current PC
2: To check if USB drive was correct boot on current PC from USB drive
3: Boot failed due to PCI driver not available problem.
4: Boot back to windows.
5: AUDIO and Wireless Keyboard/Mouse lost. Login not possible.
6: After couple of re-boots and changing USB port location Mouse and Keyboard working again.
7: All  direct attached audio  (REALTEK, HDMI Monitors with Sound) disappeard from AUDIO.
8: Work now with Bluetooth audio as a bypass.

Back to previous windows checkpoint failed.
Uninstall REALTEK device and drivers not solving the problem. Still not found.
Drive checking according to Microsoft advice not solving the problem.
Windows problem shooter did not see a problem at all.

Anyone an idea how to get my AUDIO back?

Mail to support performed but no reaction at all.

Regards Ron

Hello Ron!

Welcome to the forum!

It seems like there might be some driver conflicts or issues with your system. To address this, please consider the following solutions:

  1. Check Audio Settings: Begin by double-checking your audio settings in Windows to ensure that the correct audio output device is selected.

  2. Device Manager: Check Device Manager for any devices with yellow exclamation marks, which indicate driver problems. If you find any, try updating or reinstalling the drivers for those devices.

  3. Windows Update: Ensure that Windows is up to date by running Windows Update. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for driver issues.

  4. Driver Reinstallation: Try reinstalling the audio drivers for your PC. Visit the manufacturer's website for your motherboard or sound card to download the latest audio drivers. After downloading them, uninstall the existing audio drivers and then install the new ones.

  5. System Restore: If you've encountered issues with reverting to a previous Windows checkpoint, attempt a system restore to a point before these problems occurred. This may restore your system to a state where the audio was functioning correctly.

I've updated the ticket you raised, and your message has been forwarded to the team. I am working to expedite the process to assist you as soon as possible.

Please feel free to update the thread to let us know if the issue has been resolved or if you have any other questions.

Best regards!

Jose, thanks for your reaction.
my reaction:
Check Audio Settings:  Could not select anything. All audio possibilities are gone.
Device Manager: No yellow exclamation marks available. Also when HIDDEN devices displayed
Windows Update: All updates applied
Driver Reinstallation:  Tried this but did nothing
System Restore: Failed to go back to last checkpoint. No others available.

What I do not understand is WHY Acronis Universal Boot is changing my Windows environment while I did not ask for any action to perform by Acronis. It was only an action to see if the BOOT succeeded.

Support did not really understand my problem.
Only talking in there answer about failing Acronis Universal Restore solutions  while the problem excists in Windows
Waiting on a response from support now.

Hello Ron.

The Universal Restore shouldn't change nothing in the environment and simply restore the recovery point you selected. The issue possibly comes from another side.

Please also refer to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-sound-or-audio-problems…

Regarding the support I provided them with more details about the issue and they are aware of the situation.

You can expect a contact as soon as possible. Best regards.

Ron, since you did nothing other than to simply boot the media, it should not have made any change to the configuration of Windows on your system drive. I am assuming this because I have never run a stock Universal Restore boot drive so I don't know what it may do on boot, but I would think it would never touch the C: drive.

Assuming no changes were done to the Windows system, the other possibility would be something turned off so that Plug 'n Play was failing to detect them on boot. What I would do is be sure to completely power down your system, even so far as to unplug it. Wait a few minutes for all power to dissipate and then bring it back up. See if this gets the hardware back.If the hardware gets detected, the drivers should be loaded.

Just shooting in the dark here.

Bruno, José,

thanks for reaction.  I know it sound strange but this behavior happend twice. After boot acronis audio and keyboard mouse where not working anymore. Keyboard mouse came back after repeat boot and other usb port used.  Audio is a different story. All audio devices where gone. No selection of any device possible (no Realtek or HDMI). First time audio came back suddenly, Windows update?, I really do not know. After new versions of acronis a second try. New usb device loaded with acronis universal restore and check with a boot.
Same story, audio and keyboard mouse gone. So this specific boot does something to my system.

tried a lot off things like the ones in the windows url above. Drivers reinstalled. Restart after complete power off etc. Nothing works. Audio on my motherboard not detected anymore. A number of times I saw a climb of Realtek and HDMI in the device manager. I think I saw also an indication of “device not migrated” in the device manager so looked for this problem and tried Al the options to solve this but no succes. At this moment I do not see anything anymore from Realtek or HDMI in the device manager zo also no error messages to be found any more.

send a log to acronis support. Hope they find something.

Regards Ron

Ron,

I'm curious about exactly what you did when you booted the UR media. I've seen systems be ruined if UR was applied to a working Windows. That is a no no. I've never seen a system have problems just because the UR media was test booted and NOT applied. What did you see when you booted the UR media? Did you see the UR window appear or did the boot fail before the window was shown?

If you did see the UR window, how did you close it. There is an Okay button in the lower right corner of the window. If you click it, UR will be applied to the Windows system. You don't want to do that on a test run. You can close the window with the red X in the upper right corner of the widow without causing any problem.

Mustang,

Thanks for your reaction

Difficult to answer. I remember a screen with a processing bar stopping with an error saying a PCI driver was missing.  Then I did a reboot using a option on the screen. Not remembering which one exactly.
I do not like to test this again at this moment. Receiving a new PC this evening and want to activate this PC first before testing this UR behavior on my current PC.

Hello forum
Yesterday a Windows Update was scheduled by Microsoft on my PC and after the update “surprise surprise” my audio was available again.

Of course, this does not explain why UR introduced this problem in the first place but I do not want to try the UR behavior again having the risk to lose my audio again.

Thanks all for your reactions.
