Wrong image filetype breakdown and sizes when OneDrive is included in backup

Thread needs solution

When I backup my disk and OneDrive folder is included I get wierd filetype statistics and "data to recover" sizes. For example, my disk is 1TB, and it's used around 140GB. OneDrive syncs only few specific folders as "always available", rest is downloaded on demand. I have a lot of music, videos and pictures on OneDrive but locally nothing is downloaded (new laptop).

When I back it up it shows this:

When I exclude OneDrive it is like this:

In both cases backup file size is around 50 GB.

To me it looks like Acronis uses "actual file size" from file info, rather than "size on disk" and this causes the wrong statistics.

Can this be fixed or should I backup without OneDrive folder?

Thanks!

Goran, welcome to these public User Forums.

One Drive uses reparse points for data that is not stored locally, i.e. when Files on Demand is being used to store less used files in the One Drive cloud servers.

Acronis does not follow reparse points and should not be used to backup One Drive when Files on Demand is used. Acronis will give errors for files not present on the local hard drive.

See KB 62069: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Acronis True Image: how to back up Microsoft 365 accounts

and KB 61362: Acronis True Image: Error when backing up or recovering OneDrive folder

I did not get errors while backuping, only wrong filesize statistics. But ok, I'll keep OneDrive folder excluded.

Probably Acronis should automatically add it to exclusion list as some other things, or at least a warning better explaining to user what is the issue. Especially if it is not working properly with it. But I'm guessing that should not happen if it wasn't yet added after all these years.
