2 days to back up to the cloud?

Thread needs solution

Hi all. First time poster.

I just installed Cyber Protect and I have a question about something that is happening that is baffling to me. I ran my first back up to an external SSD with no issues (50 gb) in about 20 minutes. I'm now trying to run a second back up to the cloud. It is saying the estimated time is two days. Does this sound right?? I really doubt that it will not err out during this amount of time. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Mark, welcome to these public User Forums.

The speed of backups to the Acronis Cloud really depend on the upload speed of your internet connection along with other factors such as the size of data, hardware components involved etc.

The estimate of how long a backup might take is often inaccurate until the task has been running for some time to better establish a transfer baseline.

You can use a web service to get an idea of how much time might be needed to upload the size of your data at the upload speeds you have for you internet connection.  For example, 50GB would take around 12 hours at an upload speed of 10 Mbps (Mega bits per second).  This assumes the upload rate is constant without any pausing, lost connection etc.

Years back when I had a 100/2 Mbps cable connection, a backup of that size would take several days. I now have a 100/20 Mbps connection and that is much faster. However, the actual speed can be variable, for reasons I do not fully understand. As the number of backup slices increases, so does the backup time. [A backup slice is the data uploaded each time the backup runs - similar to an incremental backup for a local backup; the process is more complex as cloud backups, as I understand it, also involve deduplication).
