Acronis TrueImage cloning

Thread needs solution

Hello, I'm quite new to Acronis, have a question re cloning.

I have been using NTI Echo for cloning drives. With Echo if I want to update/re-write a clone I simply connect the drive that is the clone, and re-run the cloning program and it overwrites the clone with what is current.

I tried to do that using a disk that I was cloned using NTI but Acronis would not acknowledge the disk. Is it because the clone I was trying to overwrite was created by NTI and not Acronis? Same computer/W10.

Acronis uses a proprietary backup format and cannot read backup created by other cloning programs.

With Acronis it is better to create a backup (not a clone) then restore the the backup. It is possible that a clone operation may go wrong, so on the safe side even if you decided to you use clone rather than restore, you should always have a backup.

The cloning is not for purposes of or replacing normal scheduled back-up. It's to have a 'spare' disk in the event that a hard drive fails, and an easy swap of hard drives can get you up and running quickly. I like to 'refresh/re clone' the spare drive periodically.
