Backup error "Failed to back up file or folder. It may be blocked by another application."

Thread needs solution

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office 26.0.39620 on Windows 10 20H2 on desktop

It was a regular daily incremental data disk backup, this time it was a base (full) one. No applications running at night and nothing unusual. Some errors occurred (see log file), I tried Retry and Ignore, but too much errors and I stopped backup. I run backup one more time and on a second run there was also one (another file!) error, but Ignore helped. No more errors

Valery, the log shows the backup task could not backup several files in

Path: D:/Documents/My Backups/Galaxy A9 Valery SM-A920F Manual Backup/04-09-2021/DCIM on card/Camera/

There seems to be a problem with files in that folder that is blocking access to them by ATI / ACPHO.

Hi, Steve

I saw it. I mean, what files made problems.

But, after I stopped backup and re-run it one more time (as I wrote) those files, you mentioned in your answer, have been backed up properly - no errors. During re-run, there was one more error of the same kind with another file from different folder on my disk.

The problem is, Acronis is telling me about those files that "It may be blocked by another application.", but it is impossible - no other applications are running. Not to mention, that after some short time there were no problems with these files after I have re-run the backup.

What other problem might be a cause of these false messages?

Thanks,

Valery

Valery, are any of those files being picked up by any other background service such as a cloud service, i.e. Google Drive, OneDrive, etc?  Also could a virus scan have been running?

Steve,

I have Google Drive and Dropbox on my PC, but no on-going backup is defined. I use them to store files manually. By the way,  files with backup errors never stored on cloud!

There is no virus scan scheduled, Bitdefender is installed, but will act only when any file will "enter" my PC. As I wrote, no other programs to run at night, except Acronis.

But, as you know, there are always some background Microsoft processes, but I cannot see how one might be connected to files on my data disk (other than system one). I also looked on all Task Scheduler jobs and did not find any running at time, errors where found.

May it be some disk problems? I do not see any and I run CHECKDISK every month. Tomorrow I'll run it one more time, as usually on 1st day of the month

All  backups except one (with only one error of the same kind, but with different file), where OK till now.

Anyway, this problem, if you do not know an answer from your memory, does not cost your time!

Be safe and healthy!

Regards,

Valery

Sorry, I forgot to ask you one more question.

Do you know how get rid of an error red icon right of Acronis icon on the System tray (see attached screen shot)?

The simplest solution, I'm using, is just Reboot or Logout & Login Windows.

Valery, click on the system tray icon then highlight the error entry and click on the X shown on the right side to delete it which will remove the error indicator on the tray icon.

Thanks, next time (I hope I will not need). Meanwhile it was a reboot after Windows update.

As long, as I remember, after click on X within error Icon, a short Menu has been open without Delete option. As I wrote, will check next time. My be, it was not a click, but a Right click

So, I understood that you do not know any other reason for Acronis backup errors in my case, except what was logged into a file - "It may be blocked by another application"?
