Backup virtual drives (Dokany / WebDAV / FUSE) - use case is Cryptomator

Thread needs solution

Hi all.

I am using Cryptomator and wish to back-up the mounted decrypted vault with Acronis in order to have a clear copy available for emergencies. That copy would be encrypted through Acronis which is good enough for me.

Cryptomator allows mounting vaults using WebDAV, FUSE (and Dokany, once updated to handle Dokany 2.0).

I cannot see any of the mounted vaults as possible back-up sources in Acronis.

Any solution / work-around for this problem?

This is important because it is easy to accidentally delete vault files and very difficult to recover as we would only find unidentifiable encrypted files in the trash bin or cloud history.

Thomas, I do not have any direct experience with the types of virtual drives and mount methods that you are enquiring about but can offer some comments.

First, any non-local drives can only be backed up by using a Files & Folders backup task.  This cannot be done using a Disks & Partitions task.

Secondly, Acronis does not access mapped Windows drives by drive letter but will want to do so via SMB or similar supported protocol, including providing credentials for the remote location.  This will be an issue for WebDav etc as Acronis does not support that protocol!  That is the most likely reason why your mounted drives are not visible in Acronis.
