When creating a new backup, I want to include the    AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ ...  file where my Thunderbird email profile is located.   The AppData folder is excluded, so I cannot select it for backup.

I have made sure to show  "hidden files" in File Explorer.  I can see the AppData folder there.  I have unchecked  "Exclude hidden files" in the Options/Exclusions tab.  And under exclusions, there are no \AppData\Roamng  exclusions.

appreciate any advice ..

David, welcome to these public User Forums.

Not sure why you are seeing an issue here if you have correctly set the Explorer View options to show hidden files & folders?

I am able to select both the AppData\Local and Roaming Thunderbird folders and backup these without issue.

Note: I have moved the actual Thunderbird profile location for my main email account so that this is actually on a different drive, so the above data is from when Thunderbird was initially installed.

Thank you for this Steve.  I'm sure I have set the "view hidden files" correctly .. I am quite used to doing that for other applications.  I can see AppData in File Explorer and in other backup software I am trialing.  Just not in Acronis.

I have the feeling it is something to do with the differences between my Admin account and my "normal" account. Acronis wanted me to log in to the Admin account to install the software. But of course, when I set up my backups I do it from my normal account. I wonder if that is where the problem is?  The backups of my "documents" folder work just fine.

David, ATI does need to be run and used from an Admin account to work correctly and have access to hidden / system files etc.

Moving your Thunderbird profile folder out of the AppData structure would also solve this issue too - mine is all stored in D:\Thunderbird\...  - I did this a while back when using dual-boot so that my mail was common to both OS copies, but kept it this way when I went to having a single boot system.  It means that if I restore my C: drive from an older backup, I don't lose any mail or profile changes etc.
