Can't restore from dynamic disk

Thread needs solution

My computer started hanging on "Please wait" yesterday after a Windows update (Windows 10, 64 bit).  I have tried to restore from an image on a dynamic disk.  When I create a WinPE recovery USB I get an error message saying Acronis can't lock the dynamic disk partitions so I should use the Linux recover option.

I created a Linux recovery USB but it simply creates a "report" on the dynamic disk volumes and saves it on the root of the USB--no indication of how to make the Linux Actronis recovery USE the saved report data and do the restore.  If I restart the Linux Acronis recovery it just makes a new report.

I also downloaded the most recent Linux recovery version from your site and made a bootable USB of it with Rufus--same thing, lots of reports but no way to restore my system.

Please help!!

Jerald, any messages about being unable to lock the disk when doing a recovery will only apply to the target drive, not the drive where the backup image has been stored.  So is your Windows 10 OS disk a dynamic disk and if so, using what approach, i.e. is it using RAID?

This type of restore needs to be performed using the 'Simple' WinPE version of the Acronis bootable rescue media to boot the system.

What actual version of Acronis software are you using here?  Is it ACPHO as per this forum or is one of the older ATI version, i.e. ATI 2021 or earlier?

A locked disk can be caused if Windows Fast Start is enabled and the PC has not been shutdown fully, this results in the PC going into a hybrid sleep (aka hibernation) state and thus the message is given to avoid corrupting the file system.

You can shutdown the PC fully by holding a Shift key while clicking on Shutdown.

If you still see the 'unable to lock' message, then keep retrying the operation while leaving a minute or so inbetween tries.  This has worked for me.

Note: the Linux based media may not have any device driver support for dynamic disks and doesn't have support for RAID.
