Can't turn on Protection

Thread needs solution

In Windows 11 Pro, in ACPHOA, when I click on the protection tab and then click "Turn On", the screen flickers and returns to the same screen and protection does not get enabled. Can someone please help?

Thanks.

Also, I have tried repairing with 39900, re-installing with both 39900 and 39703, but with no success.

I have 2 PCs running Windows 11 Pro with the same version of ACPHO and there is no problem with protection.

Please confirm that you do not have a third party solution such as Norton 360 installed on the PC.

Ian

Thank you Ian.

I have checked that and am not seeing any third party security solution installed. Windows Security is installed and I have disabled it, but this doesn't solve the problem. The only thing that seems to work is booting into Safe Mode with networking and even then Protection just sits there and spins on the downloading protection updates section, never completing the downloads even though I have an internet connection. It also notifies me that protection will be turned on after protection updates have been downloaded.

One thing I find very odd is when I click on "Turn On" and the screen blinks and then view Windows Security's anti-virus section it says Acronis Protection is turned on.

It seems like there is something preventing it from connecting to the Internet when I click "Turn On".

The idea that there is an issue contacting the Acronis server is worth investigating

I suggest that you have a look at the Acronis Log files. You will need MVP Assistant - a new tool, including new Log Viewer (Latest version 1.1.6.0, 12/05/2021) to view the log files. Not sure where you should look, but the Cyber Protection and possibly the Console may be the place to start. To start with I would filter the information being displayed: under the View Tab, select brief or standard rather than full.

There may also be something in the logs files of your router that will identify a "misconfiguration" that is blocking internet access.

Hopefully someone who know more than I do on both these courses of action will offer further and better informed advice.

What Router are you using; are you using an Ethernet or WIFI connection?

Rick, from the Protection section of the Acronis UI, what do you see in the right pane? Does is say "Protection is stopped permanently"? Are you able to get to a Settings tab? If so, from the Advanced tab scroll down to see the status of updates.

Right now I have protection turned off so I don't get a lot of options other than to turn it on.

Ian, the log viewer tool is saying there are no log files to view. How do I locate them, please.

Rick, for ACPHO you need to use the MVP Assistant tool for the logs!

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant update for Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Version 1.1.6.0)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

If the main ACPHO GUI shows as in your image, i.e. Protection is stopped permanently, then the only option is to Turn it on.  Before doing so, open Windows Security and check who the current providers are Virus & Protection panel, then taking the Manage Providers option.  This will open a panel headed "Security providers".  On my system, it shows Microsoft Defender Antivirus for the Antivirus provider, and Windows Firewall for the other.  This will Acronis Cyber Protection stopped permanently.  If I turn on Acronis protection, it will make Acronis Cyber Protect the antivirus provider.

Solved! I got great support from Acronis! They had me download and run the cleanup tool, and check some registry entries and edit if needed. I then reinstalled ACPHOA using the latest version (39900) and it worked. I now have Protection enabled and am able to get the latest Protection updates.

The only caveat is that when I ran the cleanup tool it also uninstalled Acronis Disk Director 12 and I was warned about that in advance. I don't use it very often and haven't gotten around to reinstalling it yet.

Amit Kumar helped me with this problem and is an excellent Acronis support person. Highly recommend him.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this problem! You're a great resource.
