Need help booting from USB with screen shots

Thread solved

Hello,

I what I'm trying to boot is a Lenovo B320 so that I can copy my back up to my new SSD.  I was able to simply clone my other Lenovo B320 but it is a rather empty computer.  The one I'm trying to now do is my office.

I have posted 3 pictures. What I see after F12, then when I get into Setup and Primary Sequence.  If the USB drive is plugged in it shows up under Excluded.  I have tried following the instructions to Include this drive but nothing happens.

Any idea, suggestions?

Dan

Daniel, if you are wanting to boot from the SanDisk USB drive then you need to include it in the top list for your Primary Boot Sequence options.

I would suggest removing all the options for Floppy drives (FDD) and Network boot as it is unlikely that you would ever use those!  Once the SanDisk is included your F12 list should show it as a boot option.  If hitting the 'X' key with SanDisk selected / highlighted doesn't include it, then I would suggest looking to see if your BIOS has an option to reset all the settings back to Default then try again.  Note: take some pictures of the current settings before doing a reset so that you can change anything else that might be changed as default.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I just found a youtube that showed how to include the USB drive.  I did not realize after highlighting the drive I had to hit X as the instructions say exclude.

I just tried it on my test machine it all worked.  So, now onto restoring to the new drive.

Thank you.

I have now successfully upgraded my last computer to an SSD.  Took a bit of learning, but thanks for this forum and some specific help off the net for the Lenovo.

Everything is running fine.  I was surprised how fast the process went using the backup/recovery compared to the clone.  Though the backup did take a few hours.

Next up, upgrading the connection to the net.
