Not protected message

Thread needs solution

I'm getting messages from Windows saying I've no anti-virus software running and from Acronis saying 'Not protected from malware'.  Hitting the 'Turn on protection' button has no effect on this, nor is their any more information as to why this is the case.  See linked images.  Going into Settings / Reset to defaults doesn't help this.  Saving a probable trojan from a scam email confirms protection isn't in place and my system is exposed.  Suggestions?

Version is Acronis Cyber Home Office, Build 39620, which was updated today.  Was happening on the previous version too.

I've been getting this for weeks, also with build 39620.   Can anybody give us an idea of what's going on?

Not something I recall seeing - but I'm getting on and the memory is not what it used to be. I would suggest doing a repair installation, but you have effectively done the same thing by installing the new build.

You could try uninstalling the program, then running the cleanup utility (I do not suggest editing the registry unless running the utility does not solve the problem). Before doings so, backup you settings (unfortunately it only seems to backup the backup scripts not other settings). Then reinstall the program and restore your settings.

Before trying this wait to see if there are any other suggestions forthcoming.

Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the feedback.  I bought and use Acronis as a backup tool and really neither want nor need any of the anti-virus stuff.  I've decided to permanently disable all the Acronis protection tools for now and reverted to Windows Defender which has worked well for me for years.  I really don't want to spend hours getting a security system up and running that may be a bit flakey.  I may look at trying Acronis protection again at some point in the future if it appears to be more robust.

The issue usually occurs if there is any third-party antimalware\firewall software installed on the computer. To eliminate possibility of that conflict from the other antivirus part, we recommend that you leave only Acronis product and uninstall the third-party antivirus. Additional troubleshooting steps could be the repair installation and running the cleanup utility, as pointed out by Ian.
In most cases that would solve the issue, otherwise please open a support ticket so that our engineers can look into the situation.

Hi Ekaterina,

I've no other 3rd party security installed, nor have I had any in the past.  Just Acronis.  Are there any simpler Acronis backup products that don't include security and other unwanted stuff?  I currently have a 3 user subscription license to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Premium and a 3 user perpetual license to Acronis True Image 2018.  I actually need to add a few more licenses to this and just need a robust backup software that backs up to the cloud.  No problem paying subs for the cloud space rental but am looking to move off Acronis currently as I've had to abandon a bunch of backups in a previous incident and am now wasting time on a security product I simply don't want.  In addition to being able backup stuff, I need disk cloning to upgrade older PCs with newer SSDs.  I hate having an unwanted virus scanner foisted upon me.

Hi Ekaterina,

I don't have any other AV software installed either. However, I think I may have just solved the problem.

I saw the 'Turn off protection button' on the screen and wondered "what if...?"  So I clicked on it, waited a minute and clicked 'Turn on protection'. And yes, in this case "Turn it off and turn it back on again" really does appear to work!

I'll post again if the problem reappears.
