Read Error Acronis TI 2019

Thread needs solution

Hello. Since December, I've been unable to backup my C: drive to my NAS. It's about 560GB. I can backup my D: drive without issues. Using the MVP Log tool, I see this error but I don't know what it means. Any ideas?

Roger, welcome to these public User Forums.

The initial error refer to an issue with the Microsoft VSS snapshot service used to capture locked data for the backup task.

Please download the Acronis VSS Doctor tool (link below) and run this to check for issues - the tool will offer to fix some types of issues if found.

Beyond using the tool, this type of error can arise from issues such as bad sectors on the disk drive, so checking the whole drive is recommended.

Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:

 - Western Digital drives: Western Digital Dashboard

 - Seagate disks: SeaTools for Windows

 - HGST disks: HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT)

 - Intel SSDs: Intel Memory and Storage Tool (GUI)
