Rescue media

Thread needs solution

Just updated to cyber protect home office from acronis 18, The old rescue media worked just fine but when I create a new one using CPHO and boot into it all I get is a blank box with nothing in it. I have tried every which way and nothing works, Any suggestions or do I just stay with my old acronis 18 rescue media. Thanks

Tim, welcome to these public User Forums.

You should be able to create and boot from rescue media created by ACPHO though there are some known issues with integrating graphics device drivers but these would prevent the media from being created successfully rather than preventing it from booting!

How are you creating the rescue media and are you trying to inject any additional device drivers into the media during the create process?

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

KB 69472: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: how to create bootable media

I am unable to create a Windows based usb boot drive. In KB 59877, step 8 shows a registry entry of PEFirmware, but this does not appear in my registry. I downloaded the ADK and PE plugins, but didn't see any instructions from Acronis in how to use these to create the bootable media so I deleted them. Linux boot works but only after I created the bootable media using RUFUS and selecting the previously created linux iso.

I'd still like to use the windows version but need detailed procedures, other than just "Download the ADK and PE modules".

Tyler, welcome to these public User Forums.

The reference in KB 59877 step 8 is only to confirm which BIOS boot mode was used with Acronis rescue media - the whole purpose of the KB is to help users choose the correct BIOS boot mode to match the mode used by their Windows OS.

If you create rescue media using the 'Simple' option in the media builder tool, then this doesn't need you to install the Windows ADK and PE Kits, this is because it will find all the required PE components / files from the Windows Recovery Environment of your PC.

If you do want to install the ADK & PE Kits, then after doing so, you need to choose the Advanced option of the media builder, then select WinPE for the type of media to create.
Note: the version of ADK & PE Kits should match your Windows OS version to work correctly though it can be possible to use the Windows 11 Kits on a Windows 10 PC.

Thank you, Steve;

I tried again using Advanced, WnPE based, Windows Recovery Environment, Choose media destination. Then write to flashdrive and DVD both worked and then booted. I must have been doing something wrong before.
