Restore can't find tibx files Win 10

Thread needs solution

Hello, I am testing this software. Most likely, I've made a mistake

I have a Win 10 desktop. I have the boot stick with Win pe on it and I did a clone of the HDD to another USB drive. I boot up the machine with the Win rescue media Win PE and select restore, select the USB drive I did the backup to and it's looking for a tibx or tib file and I can't locate it on my restore drive.

Hi your mistake is that you are using a different program looking for the tibx files, these are only for Acronis so you need to create an Acronis Recovery USB, boot from that and you should be able to select the files in your USB.

I also see you did a clone, this will not produce tibx files, so you need to do a backup from within Acronis to the USB which will create the tibx files on the USB.

So 2 mistakes , but Good luck.

Jeremy, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please read the document in the links below my signature, in particular the one describing the difference between clone and backup.

Only Backup operations create .tibx or .tib files.

Cloning makes a duplicate copy of the whole source disk that was selected to the target drive.

This software is very difficult to use. Maybe what I'm trying to do is not possible with this software. Can you not clone one c:\ drive from one desktop, and restore it to another desktop c:\ via the clone procedure?

Below is what I've done

I have done a clone of one dell desktop system to a USB drive

I booted up another dell desktop with the usb stick and chose clone disk

I selected the USB drive as the source disk. I’m trying to select the destination disk as my c:\ hard drive in the computer and I’m getting an error “unable to lock the disk. Boot your computer from a linux based bootable media. And as you can see in the screenshot, the C:\ drive is not even selectable.

So far this software is not going good for us, I don't know why it's so difficult to use.

Sorry but cloning is not intended to be used for the purpose you are using here.

To migrate between different hardware you should be using Backup & Recovery along with using Acronis Universal Restore to prepare the restored backup on the new hardware and handle differences in the hardware components and device drivers needed.

See KB 69330: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: Restoring to dissimilar hardware with Acronis Universal Restore and in particular review Steps 4 and 5 of this document.
