Restore from different version of Windows 10

Thread needs solution

I am running Cyber Home. I may get a computer which is running WIN10 PRO.

My backup on an external drive has WIN10 Home edition.

What happens when I do a restore frome the HOME backup to the PRO computer?

Do I end up with problems.

Thanks

Donnie, there are a number of considerations if you are migrating to a different computer.

Your current Win 10 Home backup will contain device drivers for the devices / components found in the current computer but may not have essential drivers that the new computer may need.

The current computer, if it is some years old, may also contain lots of accumulated 'dross' from old applications that have been uninstalled, temporary data etc.  Getting a new computer can be a great way to get a new, fast, uncluttered computer that allows you to review your current suite of programs / applications and only install the ones that you want to bring to the new computer, so having a good housekeeping clean out!

From a license perspective, the Windows 10 Pro license will normally be licensed to the new computer hardware, so your older Windows 10 Home could be upgraded to Pro if restored to that new hardware.
