Support for WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra

Thread needs solution

I've used Acronis True Image on my iMac and MacBook for several years with no major problems.  My backup device is a Western Digital MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS, about 3 or 4 years old now.  I notice that on the backup page my destination shows "not available" sometimes.  Backups seem to be OK, but I've not noticed this message in the past.

Knowledge Base article 70017 says "WD My Cloud Home NAS and WD My Cloud Home Duo are currently not supported by Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and Acronis True Image both on Mac and Windows."  Just wondering if the same is true for the MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS as well.  Anyone else using this NAS?

John,

In KB70017 an note states:

"This compatibility issue applies only to WD My Cloud Home NAS and WD My Cloud Home Duo models. Other WD NAS models are supported."

I take it from that your model does have support.  I did a bit of research here and found that the EX2 Ultra NAS uses the standard SMB protocol on a network whereas the My Cloud Home and Duo models work as mapped or locally connected drives which do not use SMB thus they are more of an externally connected disk drive rather than an NAS device.

This means simply that the devices work in different manners and the later two are not true NAS devices so are not supported as such by Acronis.
