ti 2021 backup restore won't boot

Thread needs solution

I restored a  backup to my original drive, it won't boot. Says inaccessible boot device, I did get it to boot to safe mode, will not boot in normal mode. Windows troubleshooter can not fix it. Any ideas???

Gary, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but too little information to be able to guess at why your PC won't boot normally?

Was the backup you restored created of Disks & Partitions for the Windows OS drive?

Did you restore the whole backup including all partitions on the drive?

If you are able to boot into Windows Safe Mode, that would normally indicate a device driver type issue if a normal boot fails.

An inaccessible boot device error suggests that your boot device order is incorrect in your BIOS setup.

If your PC boots using UEFI then your boot order First device needs to be Windows Boot Manager.

If you PC boots using MBR/Legacy then your boot order First device needs to be the drive on which Windows is installed.

If you have a single disk drive in your PC then it is likely your boot order is set to the removable media from which you performed the restore process so the boot order needs to be changed.  Because the PC boots in Safe Mode is a very good sign as it suggests that Windows is capable of running as it should.  Adjusting your boot device order should fix the issue.

Thanks, but all is set up correctly, I have recovered many other times before win 11 with no problem, yes it is a complete backup of entire drive, why would it be a driver problem, all the drivers should have been backed up by acronis? if it is a driver how can it be fixed, safe mode does not let you install drivers

Gary, what safe mode should allow you to do is to use msconfig to start trying to identify what is preventing your PC from being able to do a normal startup by doing a selective startup and adding in new items bit by bit.

The alternative here would be to try restoring an older backup from prior to upgrading to Win 11 assuming that this is a very recent change and not one done months back.
