Validation

Thread needs solution

The simplest question!

A backup job takes full backups. Three previous ones are kept before auto-deletion.

Validation has the major option to ‘validate backup each time after it is completed’ with the sub-options to ‘validate entire backup’ or to ‘validate the latest diverse backup version only’.

Since I don’t take differential backups, the last option is irrelevant, so the only selectable option is to validate the entire backup each time after it is completed.

My question is simply whether this means validate all the versions present (in my case the one just taken plus three previous) or just to validate the one just taken.  And if I cannot just validate the one just taken (unless it is the latest a slice of a  differential backup) it seems a curious omission: it is offered as a manual option from the Backup 'context' menu but apparently not a a default setting for the backup job.

You are confusing diverse backup with differential backup. Understandable in the circumstances. Diverse backup as a term does not immediately make much sense - but if you look in the User Manual you will find the following:

Validate the latest diverse backup only - A quick validation of the last backup slice.

Backup slice appears to refer to the full, incremental or differential backup that has just taken place - not explained in the user manual.
