Acronis Disk Director 10.0 #2239 to partition Cannot see other USB storage devices

Thread needs solution

Acronis Disk Director 10.0 #2239 to partition Cannot see other USB devices

I have Lenovo T500 Laptop with Lenovo's Original XP 32bit OEM Image with Lenovo's hidden partition created by Lenovo and Hard disc is SATA. When I purchased and installed the Acronis Disk Director 10.0 #2239 the Disk Director cannot see other USB Memory storage devices such as USB Thumb drives, USB sticks, external 2.5inch and 3.5 Inch Hard disc drives weather they are formated as NTFS or FAT 32 plugged into the laptop.
However Acronis Disk Director 10.0 #2239 can see the two partitions that Lenovo have created C: Preload and the Lenovo hidden partition. Has anybody have this same issue with Laptop manufactures OEM Operating system? Is there a configuration fix for this issue.

I'm now creating an error free (as possible) image so all software have been installed and only registered ect so the image is and will be in mint condition to keep as a backup image for future hard drive Image installs.

Your reply's and imput is much appreciated. Thank you.

Is it in Windows that DD can't see the drives or is it when booted to the DD CD?

If the CD, did you try creating a CD from the ISO available for download from your Acronis account?

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
Zackrey,
If you experience the issue under Windows, please go to Disk Management and check if the USB devices are detected as hard disks (not as removable media). Otherwise, format the USB devices by means of Disk Management or reboot the computer and see if the issue remains. The reboot may help the operating system to detect the devices as hard disks.
If you experience the issue under Acronis Bootable media, please follow the suggestion posted by MudCrab. You can find the information on how to download the appropriate ISO file in this article. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Dear MudCrab and Oleg,

Thank you both for your kind and speedy replies. :D

I experienced this issue in windows XP environment only, I'm sorry for not being so specific in my first post.
I clicked on Acronis Disk Director (Icon), plugged in several different USB formated as FAT32 and NTFS only and could not see the drives with partition area of Disk Director such as to format or created extra petitions ect.
However I'll try the method the that Oleg had suggested after the next image creation in the next around 26hrs from this posting time and inform you both of my outcome.

Thank again MudCrab and Oleg for your input.

Dear MudCrab and Oleg,

This issue is now resolved, however I have not modified any settings to do with Acronis Disc Director or windows settings to change USB devices to detected as hard disks. I was working with other applications and updates ect did 3 restarts. On the 3rd restart I then decided to commence work on Disk Director and windows disk management procedure as suggested by Oleg but then the USB memory devices did show up and could work with them using Acronis Disk Director.

I will investigate the registry ect on what I experienced.
Also perhaps I should have been a little more patient being windows environment and applications ect and what I'm modifying.

Thank you both Oleg and MudCrab for your concern.

Zac:

On most ThinkPads the BIOS will enumerate USB disks when the PC boots. After this USB disks should be seen in both Windows and in the Acronis boot environment. So it was your reboot that solved this issue.

Normally in Windows you can plug/unplug USB disks and they will appear/disappear from Windows Explorer and Windows Disk Management. I'm not positive what DD looks for when it presents a list of attached disks, but on my ThinkPad it has usually been necessary to have the USB device attached when booting in order for DD to recognize it in the bootable recovery CD environment. I forget how the Windows version of DD works - I have not had DD installed in Windows for quite some time now.

Hi Kolo (Mark),

Sorry for the late reply in regards to the last post in regards to my query with Disk Director.

My experience so far with Lenovo T500 and Acronis...
So far after creating a backup image with Acronis True Image 2010 and installing Acronis Dis Director 10.0 #2239 and installing many other software on my machine all has been great so far. That is when boot into WinXP use some programs ect then plug in memory stick and external hard drives, Disk Director 10.0 #2239 see's them all without rebooting the machine and partitions too.

Ive bee reading many post's at Acronis and other software manufacturers and other brands of Laptop manufacturers, and as I have learned from you too Kolo the chipsets on other laptops are of different nature in some way and some OEM supplied OS's have some features disabled ect too.

Wow! owning a laptop and working with technical software to have some powerful features is an can be quite a task. :-) That is comparing to generic self made and mod desktop machines and their chipsets to laptops chipsets.

Thank you Kolo for your input as it has been educational experience for me.

I'm still researching the web for technical IT info and still floating around Acronis forums.

Thanks
Zac
