Acronis disk director 11 caused serious issues on SBS 2003

Thread needs solution

I have used ADD 11 to extend OS partition on my SBS2003 running DC, IIS, Exch services, after extending disk it gave wintrust.dll missing error and failed to show to desktop after login. I could fix this error by restoring this dll from latest backup and able to reach to desktop. But big issue happened lots of permission from core IIS directories missing causing exchange owa, outlook anywhere etc not working, IIS services crashing. I could restore directory permissions as in the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812614 manually by going to each directory and registry. we are totally stuck. Did any one ended up with this kind of mess and how got out of it please share.

Hello Rajeev sharma,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

I am sorry to hear, that you have problems using Acronis software. However, the Acronis Disk Director 11 Home does not support Microsoft Server operating systems. See Acronis Disk Director 11 Home: Supported Operating Systems.

Only the product Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced Server does support Microsoft Server operating systems. See Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced Server: Supported Operating Systems.

Extending a system partition could never damage the operating system. The operation itself does not change any value on the partition. Only the partition table will be modified. It is a good idea to defrag all partitions before resizing. Another good way is to run a recovery operation from the complete system and resize the partitions during this recovery. See Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: Resizing Partitions during Restore to Larger/Smaller Hard Drive.

Thanks for your response, I used Acronis disk director 11, advanced server.

I used it on my lab on servers OS 2003 and 2008 and it worked without any issue. I don't why and what happened here. Can you please tell that After extending does uninstalling Acronis disk director 11, advanced server will cause any trouble?

Hello Rajeev sharma,

Thank you for your reply.

The reason for this behavior is, that Acronis Disk Director 11 is not compatible to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10. There are compatibility issues in several combinations. See this article from our knowledge base.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
