OK. I've done all that DL and installed it, plugged in the key.
Does that automatically register me?

Yes, if you were given a SN, this means you're registered and now can access ADD11 Beta Forum.

Doesn't ADD11 Beta have OS Selector in it? I can't find it in the download or in the user guide. Will the final release come with OS Selector?

Hi Dohhboy! OS Selector is no longer part of ADD11. As for today, we do not have plans updating it. We think that with expansion virtualization multi-boot configurations are becoming obsolete.
- Log in to post comments

Don't know where you got your info from regarding multi-boot configs becoming obsolete?
It certainly isn't true for me or many of my associates. I have and intend to keep triple booting, XP. Vista and Win7.
- Log in to post comments

Sergey, how can multi-boot configuration become obsolete when there are people that use the OS selector to test hardware compatiblity between OS. There are other who play games too. A VM will never let you test video drivers or software that requires hardware accelerated devices to work (like 3D games). Not even VBox can come close to real hardware. And what about machines with multiple processor, some VM can only give you up to 2 vCPU, and Mickeysoft only give you 1 with VPC.
I'd been waiting really long for an upgrade of DD if the new version doesn't include the OS Selector which is the feature I use the most, then I will try the product from V-Com which offer OS selector... and is Win 7 compatible.

Maybe there's something wrong with my Beta, but I can't even install (even under Run As Admin) the DD 11 installer. It never installs.
Any thoughts?

Let's hope you and your team do some RETHINKING about multi-booting and get some revisions in the works. MB is going to be around for some time and if people don't see that ability included in your product, then it's off to the competition. Can Acronis afford to ignore customers, particularly in today's environment?

I have just converted to ADD10 for the multi boot enhancments over its competition - (currently configuring an 8 Partition multi Boot) - if this is going to be dropped then I think I will need to re think my platform as multi-boot for me is going to be around for a long time and cannot risk the support for this product discontinuing
cheers

I have had no issues with ADD10, as I have it installed in an XP partition. But I have Windows 7 now and I have been looking forward to the new version of ADD, just for the OS Selector. Well if ADD11 doesn't come with OS Selector, there will be no need for me to purchase it either.
Since my original comment, it appears that I am not the only one that uses Acronis OS Selector, at the moment.

I installed ADD11 on Windows 7 Home Premium. Then I modified the size and number of partitions of my HDD, it seemd to work fine. When ADD11 has finished it booted the system but True Image Home 2010 couldn't find the boot partition. It asked me to press 'enter' to boot the system, which worked just fine. Then I started the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, hence everything worked fine again.

Tried to register as a beta tester, filled in the survey, tried to send it, just get a blank survey form returned.
Cheers

For whatever reason, Acronis seems to always ignore any questions or comments that appear to go against the company line of thought?
Here we have a number of posts regarding the multi boot capabilities of DD11 ( or lack of same ) and Acronis never even has an acknowledgement of these concerns, no less a possibliity of revising their program outlines to satisfy customers needs.
Come on, Mr. Product Manager, do some managing!

Bob,
Acronis have answered in a post on the DD11 beta forum. They are reconsidering, but no final decision has been made as yet.
I've edited in the reply from Acronis. Post 9874#comment-26849,
Which basically says, that Acronis will take note of the user concerns, will analyze the feedback they receive and will make a decision.

Did I miss that reply? Last thing I read was that they had no plans to change?

Hi - I registered just to chime in that I too would use the OS selector. It is at least half the reason I would buy DD11 (would have already bought 10 if not for the Win7 issues). If that is not going to be a feature then the likelihood of me purchasing DD11 drops significantly, especially if I can find another product with similar features. Granted, significant and useful replacements could sway my opinion, but then it would still probably end up being a case of buying two products instead of one.
Also, I should note that I make use of virtualization as well, but would prefer to avoid it in most cases. I've been waiting for DD11 to come out so I can migrate from all the VM's I'm using to actual installations. VM's are nice, but only one or two OS'es do I actually enjoy using in a VM, some will not even work.
Lastly - In my opinion, more options is always better. Give people choices and they will be happy (see Google), restrict them and they will resent you (Most companies). If it is financially reasonable to develop, adding the option to use the OS selector can only make the product better.

Tried to install DD11 beta on my XP partition and it promptly blew away my TI 2009 Build 9809 Home program. When i tried to access TI, it said files were missing and I had to reinstall TI. How would DD11 affect the installation of TI? ( and why? )
DD11 is not backward compatible with XP?
- Log in to post comments

NICE TRY!
As I have a real partition loss/boot problem issue, it would be a good opportunity to test DD's service performance in the worst case. But it fails right from the starting point: I created an iso-file and burned a boot CD (Nero barked "successfully") which shows the DD/Boot normally choice menu and after clicking on DD - - - - - - - - - - - - (black black screen, nicer than the blue, for a change, but frustrating anyway) and then a little shy line: (translated from German) Initial image cannot be loaded. Did you skip that on purpose or is it a joke?
Amendment: When the media builder creates the iso-file, there is a page inbetween others with the line: Kernel parameters. This line is empty. Am I considered to write something into that box? How would I simple DAU know what?

Don't know what you mean by "nice try" and I didn't skip anything and it's NOT a joke.
Who were you replying to?

Bad surprise on top of it:

DD11 is not backward compatible with XP?
I have the same problem: I cannot start my TI Home 11 (latest build) anymore. The error message says: Cannot initialize the Snapshot manager (0x100005) and then a long TAG and then: version conflict, the modules have incompatible versions (0x9 code=E0000009).
At which state of a program development do you release it? Such a bug must not happen, really! As TI Home is a serious program which I indeed use to use I would like to see that problem solved very fast or I will stop to become director's beta victim rightaway!
@BOB: Of course, DD11 must be okay for XP as well! Their Beta description says that they have includedWindows 7 into the OS choice of DD 10.
Include does not mean replace.

No problem. Just couldn't figure out what you were talking about?
You could have clicked on a Quote box from Sergey or Andrew, who are apparently from Acronis.

Marieluise,
Yes, that was just about the same sequence of events and error messages that I received. I had to reinstall TI completely to get it to work at all.
Definitely, not right!
Now if only we can get Acronis to READ some of these posts.

Haha, would be a good idea to reply to a blank message!
Thanks for the advice, will think on it next time.

Folks,
If you've registered for the beta testing, then there is the DD11 beta forum that you might find interesting.

That's what I did. Apparently Andrew didn't have anything to say at that point. [ : )

For me, a repair install sufficed. But it is annoying that such a basic bug happens in a beta version. If we test software at such a low level we should be paid for it!

I thought this thread was just made for this purpose?
... as long as they are not joking ...

where do I find that beta forum? I have searched in vain!

Since the heading of this Forum is: 9839: Acronis Disk Director 11 Home Beta...... I thought that's what this was?
I AM registered... ( how else would I have a copy of DD11 ? ) got a link to that "other" forum?

Exactly! Me too!

Bob,
I've just seen you've found the beta forum :)
Marieluise, if it isn't showing up in the forum index for you (you might need to log out and log back in again for it to become visible), then you need to PM either AndyB or one of the Acronis people to get yourself added.
- Log in to post comments

Log off the forum and log back in. The DD Beta forum should show up in the main forum list (it has its own section). This thread is not the beta forum.
- Log in to post comments

There was a link to it in a Sergey's post to Bob:
http://forum.acronis.com/forums/beta-programs/acronis-disk-director-11-…
But it is completely empty!
- Log in to post comments

I logged in and out twice already. Not beta forum to be seen!
- Log in to post comments

Marieluise,
Then send a PM to either AndyB (forum web person) or one of the other Acronis people, and ask them to enable the forum on your account. It should have happened automatically on registration, but it might have hiccupped in your case.
